A method and a system for controlling an output of an optical system, the method comprising generating a plurality of optical signal components having different optical properties and passing the generated optical signal components as input to an optical system comprising an optical device and/or an optical medium; an output of the optical system being based on interactions of the signal components within the optical device and/or the optical medium; and relative proportions of the optical signal components that are generated and individual optical properties thereof being selected to control the output of the optical system.

A stretching fiber module that stretches a pulse width of the broadband pulsed light from a broadband pulsed light source such that a time and a wavelength in a pulse correspond to each other on a one-to-one basis includes a multicore fiber and single-core compensation fibers coupled to cores of the multicore fiber. The compensation fibers compensate for a variation in wavelength dispersion characteristic between the cores of the multicore fiber and are temperature-controlled by a temperature adjuster.
BROADBAND LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND METHOD OF CREATING BROADBAND LIGHT PULSES
A broadband light source device for creating broadband light pulses includes a hollow-core fiber and a pump laser source device. The hollow-core fiber is configured to create the broadband light pulses by an optical non-linear broadening of pump laser pulses. The hollow-core fiber includes a filling gas, an axial hollow light guiding fiber core configured to support core modes of a guided light field, and an inner fiber structure surrounding the fiber core and configured to support transverse wall modes of the guided light field. The pump laser source device is configured to create and provide the pump laser pulses at an input side of the hollow-core fiber. The transverse wall modes include a fundamental transverse wall mode and second and higher order transverse wall modes.
Frequency broadening apparatus and method
An apparatus for receiving input radiation and broadening a frequency range of the input radiation to provide broadband output radiation. The apparatus includes a chamber, a fiber, a gas generating apparatus, and a radical generating apparatus. The fiber includes a hollow core configured to guide radiation propagating through the fiber, the hollow core in fluid communication with the chamber. The gas generating apparatus is configured to provide a gas within the chamber. The radical generating apparatus is configured to provide free radicals within the chamber to reduce contaminants in the gas. The apparatus may be included in a radiation source.
Fiber structure, pulse laser device, and supercontinuum light source
A fiber structure includes first and second optical fibers disposed such that end portions thereof butt, a sheet-shaped saturable absorber including a carbon nanotube and disposed between the end portion of the first optical fiber and the end portion of the second optical fiber, and a housing internally accommodating the end portion of the first optical fiber and the end portion of the second optical fiber. A space in the housing including the saturable absorber is airtight.
Optical source and supercontinuum light generation apparatus
An optical source including a supercontinuum generation apparatus including a pump light source, a twisted photonic crystal fibre, PCF, and a wideband quarter-wave retarder. The pump light source is arranged to provide circularly polarised pump light. The twisted PCF is arranged to receive the pump light and to convert the pump light into circularly polarised supercontinuum light. The wideband quarter-wave retarder is arranged to convert the circularly polarised supercontinuum light into linearly polarised supercontinuum light. The optical source may additionally include a wavelength tunable bandpass optical filter arranged to transmit the linearly polarised supercontinuum light at wavelengths within a selected range.
FREQUENCY BROADENING APPARATUS AND METHOD
An apparatus for receiving input radiation and broadening a frequency range of the input radiation to provide broadband output radiation. The apparatus includes a chamber, a fiber, a gas generating apparatus, and a radical generating apparatus. The fiber includes a hollow core configured to guide radiation propagating through the fiber, the hollow core in fluid communication with the chamber. The gas generating apparatus is configured to provide a gas within the chamber. The radical generating apparatus is configured to provide free radicals within the chamber to reduce contaminants in the gas. The apparatus may be included in a radiation source.
RADIATION SOURCE
A radiation source includes: a hollow core optical fiber, a working medium; and a pulsed pump radiation source. The hollow core optical fiber has a body and has a hollow core. The working medium is disposed within the hollow core. The pulsed pump radiation source is arranged to produce pulsed pump radiation that is received by, and propagates through, the hollow core from an input end to an output end. One or more parameters of the pulsed pump radiation, the optical fiber and the working medium are configured to allow soliton self-compression of the pulsed pump radiation so as to change a spectrum of the pulsed pump radiation so as to form output radiation. In some embodiments, a length of the optical fiber is such that the output end substantially coincides with a position at which a temporal extent of the pulsed pump radiation is minimal.
Photonic crystal fiber, a method of production thereof and a supercontinuum light source
A Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) a method of its production and a supercontinuum light source comprising such PCF. The PCF has a longitudinal axis and includes a core extending along the length of said longitudinal axis and a cladding region surrounding the core. At least the cladding region includes a plurality of microstructures in the form of inclusions extending along the longitudinal axis of the PCF in at least a microstructured length section. In at least a degradation resistant length section of the microstructured length section the PCF includes hydrogen and/or deuterium. In at least the degradation resistant length section the PCF further includes a main coating surrounding the cladding region, which main coating is hermetic for the hydrogen and/or deuterium at a temperature below T.sub.h, wherein T.sub.h is at least about 50° C., preferably 50° C.<T.sub.h<250° C.
Microresonator-Frequency-Comb-Based Platform For Clinical High-Resolution Optical Coherence Tomography
A method of providing optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging may comprise using an on-chip frequency comb source interfaced with an OCT system by a circulator as an imaging source and reconstructing OCT images from resulting spectral data from target tissue illuminated by the imaging source.
