ARTICLE FOR DISPLAY DEVICE, DISPLAY SYSTEM AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
An article (100) for a display device includes a diffraction grating film (102), a first optically clear adhesive layer (120), and a second optically clear adhesive layer (130). The diffraction grating film includes a base layer (104) and a plurality of microstructures (106) projecting from the base layer. The base layer defines a non-structured surface of the diffraction grating film and the plurality of microstructures define a structured surface of the diffraction grating film opposite to the non-structured surface. The first optically clear adhesive layer is disposed on the structured surface of the diffraction grating film. The second optically clear adhesive layer is disposed on the non-structured surface of the diffraction grating film.
Beam splitter with switchable output beam
A beam splitter configured to split incident light includes a polarization grating having a liquid crystal layer and a reflective sub-aperture beam splitter. The liquid crystal layer is configured to switch between an “on” state and an “off” state in response to an applied voltage. In the “off” state, the polarization grating angularly deviates and polarizes a portion of received incident light passing therethrough. In the “on” state, crystals of the polarization grating align with the incident light, allowing it to pass therethrough unimpeded and unpolarized. The beam splitter includes a plurality of sub-aperture mirrors which are spaced at randomly varying distances from one another, the mirrors being configured to reflect a portion of the incident light.
Dual view zone backlight, dual-mode display, and method employing directional emitters
A dual view zone backlight and dual-mode display employ a first backlight region including a directional emitter to provide directional emitted light toward a first view zone and a second backlight region including a broad-angle emitter to provide broad-angle emitted light toward the first and a second view zone in a first mode. The dual-mode display includes a second backlight to provide broad-angle light toward both the first view zone and the second view zone in a second mode.
Self-seeded OPA system
A self-seeded optical parametric amplifier (OPA) system includes a cavity mirror, a wavelength conversion unit, and a dichroic filter. The cavity mirror is configured to allow high transmission for an input laser beam and high reflection for a feedback beam. The wavelength conversion unit is configured to convert the input laser beam into a signal laser beam and an idler laser beam. The dichroic filter is configured to allow one of the signal laser beam and the idler laser beam to pass through the dichroic filter and reflect the other one onto a feedback path.
Stacked waveguides having different diffraction gratings for combined field of view
In one aspect, an optical device comprises a plurality of waveguides formed over one another and having formed thereon respective diffraction gratings, wherein the respective diffraction gratings are configured to diffract visible light incident thereon into respective waveguides, such that visible light diffracted into the respective waveguides propagates therewithin. The respective diffraction gratings are configured to diffract the visible light into the respective waveguides within respective field of views (FOVs) with respect to layer normal directions of the respective waveguides. The respective FOVs are such that the plurality of waveguides are configured to diffract the visible light within a combined FOV that is continuous and greater than each of the respective FOVs.
Display device
A display device is provided. The display device includes a backlight module with a reverse prism structure disposed on top, and a display module disposed above the backlight module. The display module includes a display panel and a sensor component. The sensor component is embedded in the display panel. The sensor component includes a plurality of sensors. A plurality of diffraction gratings are disposed on surfaces of the plurality of sensors. A grating direction of the plurality of diffraction gratings is perpendicular to a grating direction of the reverse prism structure.
LIGHTGUIDES WITH COLOR- AND TIME-SEQUENTIAL GRATINGS
A lightguide for conveying image light to an eyebox of a display device includes a tunable grating, e.g. an out-coupling grating for out-coupling the image light from the lightguide. The tunable grating may be tuned or switched to effectively diffract light of a color channel of a color-sequential display. In augmented reality display systems, a lightguide combiner element may include a switchable grating to out-couple the image light only during short time intervals and to not out-couple the image light in between these time intervals. Effectively, the out-coupling grating is present only a portion of overall operation time of the display, which improves the transparency of the combiner element to the outside light and reduces rainbow effects.

LIGHTGUIDES WITH TUNABLE GRATINGS FOR DYNAMICALLY VARIABLE FIELD-OF-VIEW
A display apparatus includes a lightguide for conveying images to a user in a target field-of-view (FOV). The lightguide includes a tunable output diffraction grating for displaying different portions of the target field-of-view at different time instances. The tunable output diffraction grating may include grating segments that are selectively switchable between a diffracting state and a non-diffracting state in dependence on a content of an image being displayed, providing content-dependent FOV switching.
DATA CREATION APPARATUS, LIGHT CONTROL APPARATUS, DATA CREATION METHOD, AND DATA CREATION PROGRAM
An iterative Fourier transform unit of a modulation pattern calculation apparatus performs a Fourier transform on a waveform function including an intensity spectrum function and a phase spectrum function, performs a replacement of a temporal intensity waveform function based on a desired waveform after the Fourier transform, and then performs an inverse Fourier transform. The iterative Fourier transform unit performs the replacement using a result of multiplying a function representing the desired waveform by a coefficient. The coefficient has a value with which a difference between the function after the multiplication of the coefficient and the temporal intensity waveform function after the Fourier transform is smaller than a difference before the multiplication, and a ratio of the difference is smaller when an intensity is higher at each time of the function before the multiplication.
