LED FLASH RING SURROUNDING CAMERA LENS
20170307962 · 2017-10-26 · ·

A flash system for an electronic device includes a ring-shaped light guide having a central opening. A camera lens is positioned in or behind the opening. A first light emitting diode (“LED”) is mounted on a printed circuit board (“PCB”), and the LED and PCB are encapsulated by a molded light guide of the flash system. An identical LED and PCB are encapsulated at an opposite end of the molded light guide (i.e., 180 degrees away). The back surfaces of each PCB diffusively reflects light from the LED on the other PCB. Light extraction features on the light guide surface uniformly leak out light from the LEDs. The light emission profile of the light guide has a peak axially aligned with the central opening of the light guide and rolls off to the edge of the camera's field of view.

SHAPE RECONSTRUCTION USING ELECTRONIC LIGHT DIFFUSING LAYERS (E-GLASS)
20170302902 · 2017-10-19 ·

Shape measurement of a specular object even in the presence of multiple intra-object reflections such as those at concave regions of the object. Silhouettes of the object are extracted, by positioning the object between a camera and a background. A visual hull of the object is reconstructed based on the extracted silhouettes, such as by image capture of shadows of the object projected onto a screen, and image capture of reflections by the surface of the object of coded patterns onto the screen. The visual hull is used to distinguish between direct (single) reflections of the coded patterns at the surface of the object and multiple reflections. Only the direct (single) reflections are used to triangulate camera rays and light rays onto the surface of the object, with multiple reflections being excluded. The 3D surface shape may be derived by voxel carving of the visual hull, in which voxels along the light path of direct reflections are eliminated. For surface reconstruction of heterogeneous objects, which exhibit both diffuse and specular reflectivity, variations in the polarization state of polarized light may be used to separate between a diffuse component of reflection and a specular component.

A lighting control device is mounted in a photoflash and comprises a fixing seat and a honeycomb grid installed in said fixing seat. The terminal of an extension of one end of the honeycomb grid has a first installation member, and the other end of the honeycomb grid has a honeycomb member. An annular region of the outer surface of the honeycomb member, which is adjacent to the first installation member, has a second installation member. In application, the first or second installation member is sleeved by the fixing seat to make the photoflash generate a desired lighted area according to requirement. Thereby, the present invention can change the distance between the honeycomb member and the photoflash and adjust the area lighted by the photoflash via varying the installation way of the honeycomb grid.

Light uniformity testing

Systems and methods for testing a light emitting device are described. A processing device receives a receiving an image of a beam of light substantially free of parallax distortion and determines one or more uniformity metrics of the beam of light based on the received image.

Turntable with light transmission round platter and light collection spindle
09822920 · 2017-11-21 · ·

A turntable with a light transmission round platter and at least one light collection spindle is provided. The light transmission round platter connects to the light collection spindle, and the light collection spindle is driven by a motor to rotate the light transmission round platter. A portion of surface of the light collection spindle is frosted. The incident light from a bottom or a lateral side is collected in a light collection area of the spindle and then transmitted toward a conjunctive area of the light transmission round platter via a transparent and smooth light guiding area, so as to lighten the originally dark conjunctive area and reduce the darkness thereof. Accordingly, the time spent in background removal of the dark conjunctive area can be reduced since the conjunctive area is lighted when the light transmission round platter is rotated for photographing an object to be photographed thereon.
