Systems and methods for multiplying the image resolution of a pixelated display

Systems integrating display resolution-multiplication solutions can be implemented in a variety of different ways. In many embodiments, the system includes an image projector for projecting image light, an image processor for computing a native image and at least one image shifted in a predefined direction, and at least one switchable grating capable of being switched between diffracting and non-diffracting states. In some embodiments, the switchable grating is optically coupled to the image projector. In a number of embodiments, the switchable gratings have a first configuration for propagating the native image light and at least one other configuration for propagating shifted image light having an angular displacement corresponding to the image shift in a predefined direction. By displaying the native and shifted images sequentially within a human eye integration period, the display resolution can be multiplied.

Depth-based projection of image-based content

A projection system and method for depth-based projection of image-based content is provided. The projection system receives a sequence of image frames to be projected on a physical surface of a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The projection system controls a depth sensor to acquire depth data associated with the physical surface and feeds a first input including the acquired depth data and a first image frame of the received sequence of image frames to a neural network-based model. The projection system further receives a set of geometric correction values as a first output of the neural network-based model for the fed first input and modifies the first image frame based on the received set of geometric correction values. The projection system further controls the illumination circuitry to project the modified first image frame onto the physical surface.

A method for automatic keystone correction in a projection system is provided that includes rectifying a first image to be projected using current keystone correction parameters to generate a first rectified image, projecting, by a projector in the projection system, the first rectified image on a projection surface, determining whether or not current keystone correction parameters are providing sufficient keystone correction after the first rectified image is projected, rectifying a second image to be projected using the current keystone correction parameters to generate a second rectified image if the current keystone correction parameters are providing sufficient keystone correction, computing new keystone correction parameters if the current keystone correction parameters are not providing sufficient keystone correction and rectifying the second image to be projected using the new keystone correction parameters to generate the second rectified image, and projecting, by the projector, the second rectified image on the projection surface.
