Provided is an image forming apparatus including: an annular transfer belt having an outer surface on which an image is transferred; a transferring unit including a transfer cylinder having a transfer area that sandwiches a recording medium with the outer surface of the transfer belt to transfer the image from the outer surface of the transfer belt to the recording medium, and a pair of first rotating bodies disposed on both axial end sides of the transfer cylinder; a pair of circulating members each being wound around the first rotating body and being circulated by rotation of the first rotating bodies; and a holding unit attached to the circulating members, the holding unit configured to hold the recording medium, transport the recording medium with circulation of the circulating members, and pass the recording medium through the transfer area.
Service system utilizing an endless cleaning surface
In an example of the disclosure, a blanket servicing system includes a rotatably mounted endless cleaning surface and a scraper. The endless cleaning surface is to have a first engagement with a blanket to obtain a layer of thermoplastic print agent from the blanket. The endless cleaning surface is to have a second engagement with the blanket to receive residue from the blanket onto the layer of thermoplastic print agent. The scraper is to scrape the endless cleaning surface to transfer the residue from the endless cleaning surface to a collection element.

An image forming apparatus comprising includes an image carrying member including a movable surface to include a toner image; a transfer roller to form a transfer nip between the transfer roller and the movable surface of the image carrying member, to move position in a direction in correspondence to a thickness of a print medium to intersect a direction of introduction of the print medium into the transfer nip, and to receive a transfer bias voltage to transfer the toner image from the movable surface of the image carrying member to the print medium; and a movement guide structure to guide the print medium toward the transfer nip, and to move in synchronization with the movement of the position of the transfer roller to change a gap between an end of the movement guide structure facing the image carrying member and the image carrying member.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable photosensitive member, a charging member, an exposure unit, a developing member, a developing voltage applying portion, a transfer member, a first transfer voltage applying portion, a second transfer voltage applying portion, a common power source, and a controller. The controller carries out control so as to execute an image forming operation, and a non-image forming operation and so as to execute, as the non-image forming operation, a cleaning operation. The controller controls a change in output of the common power source so that a value of a voltage applied from the developing voltage applying portion to the developing member during the cleaning operation is made different from a value of a voltage applied from the developing voltage applying portion to the developing member during formation of the toner image.

ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC CLEANING BLADE, PROCESS CARTRIDGE, AND ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
Provided is a cleaning blade including: an elastic member containing a polyurethane; and a supporting member configured to support the elastic member. The polyurethane has a linear moiety represented by —(CH.sub.2)m-. The elastic member has a plate shape having a main surface and a distal end surface forming a distal end-side edge with the main surface, at least on a distal end side. Martens hardness at positions on a bisector at intervals of 30 μm from a distal end-side edge to a position furthest away from the distal end-side edge by 100 μm decreases from a distal end-side edge to the position. A Martens hardness HM1 of the elastic member at a position P1 is 1.0 N/mm.sup.2 or more. The elastic layer satisfies Kω.sub.1>Kω.sub.2>Kω.sub.3. Further, the cleaning blade has an erosion rate E of 0.6 μm/g or less.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes an intermediate transfer member, a cleaning member, and an image forming unit having a developer carrier. During an image forming job, when a ratio of an amount of toner consumed to a distance that the developer carrier is rotationally driven is greater than a threshold value, the image forming unit forms a first toner supply image for supplying toner to the cleaning member in a predetermined period that is from a time at which a first toner image is transferred to the intermediate transfer member to a time at which a second toner image is transferred to the intermediate transfer member. When the ratio is less than the threshold value, the image forming unit forms a second toner supply image for supplying toner to the cleaning member in the predetermined period and having a density that is higher than a first toner supply image density.
Static elimination device and medium processing device using the same
A static elimination device includes: a first static elimination member that makes contact with a medium that is transported; a second static elimination member arranged such that the medium is inserted between the first static elimination member and the second static elimination member; and a power source that applies a voltage to at least one of the first static elimination member or the second static elimination member, in which at least one of the first static elimination member and the second static elimination member has an elastic body.
Image forming apparatus and optical sensor
An image forming apparatus includes an optical sensor configured to detect an image formed on an intermediate transfer belt. The optical sensor includes a first light emitting diode (LED), a second LED, a first photodiode (PD), and a second PD on a substrate. The first PD is arranged at a position at which specularly reflected light of light emitted from the first LED can be received, and scattered reflected light of light emitted from the second LED can be received. The second PD is arranged at a position at which scattered reflected light of light emitted from the second LED can be received. A light receiving surface of the first PD and a light receiving surface of the second PD are formed at different angles. The light receiving surface of the first PD has an area that is smaller than an area of the light receiving surface of the second PD.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes an intermediate transfer member, first and second transfer members, and a control unit. The control unit includes a first state where both the first and second transfer members are separated from the intermediate transfer member, a second state where the first transfer member contacts the intermediate transfer member and the second transfer member is separated from the intermediate transfer member, and a third state where both the first and second transfer members contact the intermediate transfer member. The control unit controls the driving member to move the moving unit, controls switch the first state to the second state and thereafter switch the second state to the third state. A rotation speed of the driving member when the second state is switched to the third state is lower than a rotation speed of the driving member when the first state is switched to the second state.
