A heating device includes: a heating unit configured to heat a transported material being transported in a transport direction in a non-contact manner with respect to the transported material; and a facing portion that is disposed on a side opposite to the heating unit with respect to the transported material and faces the heating unit in a facing direction intersecting the transport direction, wherein a length of the heating unit in the transport direction is longer than a length of the facing portion in the transport direction, or a length of the heating unit in an intersecting direction intersecting the transport direction and the facing direction is longer than a length of the facing portion in the intersecting direction.

A heater of the present invention includes jointed heat generating resistors having a positive temperature characteristic of resistance and provided between a first conductive element and a second conductive element on a substrate in a longitudinal direction of the substrate, and a plurality of heating blocks provided in the longitudinal direction, each of which is a set of the first conductive element, the second conductive element, and the heat generating resistor, and power supplied to at least one of the plurality of heating blocks can be controlled independent of other heating blocks.

Provided is an image forming apparatus, including: an image holder configured to hold an image formed using an electrographic process; a transfer body that faces the image holder and is configured to contact the image holder while rotating to form a secondary transfer region; an application unit configured to apply a voltage for charging the secondary transfer region; and a charge unit that faces a region other than the secondary transfer region of the transfer body and is configured to charge a surface of the transfer body with a polarity opposite to an applied voltage of the application unit.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a reading unit, a heating unit, and an updating unit. The reading unit reads area designation information for designating an area to be decolored in areas of a sheet on which an image that can be decolored by heating is formed and history information for indicating the number of times of performing decoloration in the past for each area of the sheet from a wireless tag attached to the sheet. The heating unit heats the area based on the area designation information read by the reading unit. The updating unit updates the history information stored in the wireless tag which corresponds to the area heated by the heating unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing device, an image reading unit, and a control unit. The fixing device includes a heating elements arranged in a main scanning direction, a band-shaped thin film which slides on the surface of the heating element while in contact with the heating element, and a rotatable body configured to press against a surface of the thin film to cause the thin film to rotate. The fixing device heats the heating elements when an inspection sheet is passed through the fixing device, the inspection sheet having plural images formed by using a decolorable developer, each of the images having an image density that differs in a sub-scanning direction of the image forming apparatus. The image reading unit reads an image of the heated inspection sheet and the control unit determines an operative state of each heating element based on the read image.

An example print apparatus is described as including a fuser roller, a pressure device that generates wear on a section of the fuser roller surface, and a wear detection engine that identifies a degree of wear on the surface of the fuser roller. An example fuser roller may include a tube, a heating element, and a plurality of layers having a detectable pattern. An example print apparatus may include a wear detection engine having an emitter, a detector, and a controller that identifies a wear pattern based on data provided by the detector in response to activation of the emitter and determines a degree of wear based on the identified wear pattern.

The present invention relates to a binder resin composition capable of giving a toner remarkably excellent in fusing property on polypropylene films, and to a toner for developing electrostatic images that contains the binder resin composition. [1] A binder resin composition for toners, containing an amorphous polyester resin which has a polyester resin-derived constituent moiety that is a constituent moiety derived from a polyester resin and a modified polypropylene polymer A-derived constituent moiety that is a constituent moiety derived from a modified polypropylene polymer A having a carboxylic acid group or a carboxylic anhydride group and in which the polyester resin-derived constituent moiety and the modified polypropylene polymer A-derived constituent moiety bond to each other via a covalent bond, wherein the polymer A is a polypropylene polymer terminally-modified with an unsaturated bond-having carboxylic acid compound or an anhydride thereof, and in the polyester resin, the amount of the polymer A-derived constituent unit is 8 parts by mass or more and 30 parts by mass or less relative to 100 parts by mass of the total of the alcohol component and the carboxylic acid component constituting the polyester resin-derived constituent moiety; and [2] a toner for developing electrostatic images, containing the binder resin composition of [1].

In an image forming apparatus, if a controller detects an abnormality in an output voltage of the power source device, the controller notifies the abnormality of the power source device. If the controller detects no abnormality in the output voltage after image data is input and before a scanner motor is activated in response to the input of the image data, the controller activates the scanner motor. If a rotary polygon mirror does not reach a target speed within a predetermined time, the controller re-detects whether there is an abnormality in the output voltage. If the controller detects an abnormality in the output voltage, the controller notifies the abnormality of the power source device. If the controller detects no abnormality in the output, the controller notifies the abnormality of the optical scanning device.

A heating device heats a sheet to which a liquid discharge unit discharges a liquid. The heating device includes a first heater to heat the sheet that has passed through the liquid discharge unit, a vacuum conveyor to convey the sheet that has passed through the first heater while sucking the sheet, a second heater to heat the sheet being conveyed by the vacuum conveyor, and circuitry that cause the first heater to heat the sheet when sheet data regarding the sheet satisfies a predetermined condition.
