DIGITAL PRINTING APPARATUS AND PROCESS USING CURABLE DRY TONER

A digital printing process for xerography printing with curable dry toner. The process includes: forming a latent image as a pattern of electric charge on a surface of an imaging member; transferring dry toner onto a development member; developing the latent image by transferring dry toner from the development member onto the imaging member in accordance with the pattern; transferring the dry toner from the imaging member to a first substrate; applying a second substrate on the transferred dry toner, fusing the transferred dry toner, and bonding the second substrate to the first substrate. The fusing is done before and/or during and/or after the applying of the second substrate. After application of the second substrate, the dry toner is irradiated with actinic radiation or particle beams to cure at least the fused transferred dry toner. The irradiating is done after and/or during the fusing.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a fixing unit, a varnish coater, and a controller. When a first image forming job in which a toner image is formed to a first recording material and varnish is not applied is executed, the controller controls conveyance of the first recording material at a fixing nip portion such that a conveyance speed of the first recording material at the fixing nip portion is a first conveyance speed. When a second image forming job in which a toner image is formed to a second recording material of which a grammage is the same as a grammage of the first recording material and varnish is applied is executed, the controller controls conveyance of the second recording material at the fixing nip portion such that the second recording material is conveyed at a second conveyance speed faster than the first conveyance speed.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion for forming an image on a sheet by using a developer including toner, a feeding belt for feeding the sheet, an infrared irradiating portion for irradiating, with infrared radiation, the image on the sheet fed by the feeding belt, and an ultraviolet irradiating portion for irradiating, with ultraviolet radiation, the image on the sheet having been irradiated with the infrared radiation to fix the developer on the sheet by ultraviolet radiation. In addition, a controller controls operations of the feeding belt and the infrared irradiating portion, and causes the infrared irradiating portion to irradiate the feeding belt with the infrared radiation while causing the feeding belt to rotate in a stand-by state in which the controller waits for an execution instruction of an image forming operation in a state in which the image forming operation is capable of being started.

Curable toner compositions and processes

An emulsion aggregation toner composition includes toner particles including: an unsaturated polymeric resin, such as amorphous resins, crystalline resins, and combinations thereof; an optional colorant; an optional wax; an optional coagulant; and a photoinitiator. By optimizing the particle size of the emulsion, the aggregant concentration utilized in the emulsion aggregation process, and the solids content of the emulsion, toners may be produced capable of generating images with non-contact fusing that have high gloss.
