An image forming apparatus includes an image forming section, a receiving section, and a controller. The image forming section forms a plurality of images on a plurality of sheets. The receiving section receives a print job including a layout format indicating a layout of the images on the sheets. The controller controls the image forming section based on the print job. Each of the images indicates an image expressed by image data of a single page. The print job includes an instruction to form the images on the sheets according to a plurality of mutually different layout formats.

Whether there exists a side area image within side areas of the recording medium is determined. When it is determined that there exists no image within the side areas, a command is transmitted to a printer. The command causes a printer to start conveying of the recording medium at an earlier timing. The side areas of the recording medium are difficult to be heated by a heater arranged at a central portion of a fixing roller. Therefore, in order to heat the side areas, a long time for heating by the heater is necessary. When there is no image within the side areas, the heating time is shortened. Thereby, it is possible to start conveying the recording medium at an early timing, and a time period for completing a printing operation can be shortened.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, an image transfer device for transferring a toner image from the image bearing member to a sheet, an application device for applying a transfer voltage to the image transfer device, and a controller for controlling an output mode operation for outputting a predetermined chart in which test halftone toner images transferred with different transfer voltages are formed to adjust the transfer voltage. When outputting a maximum size of the chart, the controller forms the test toner images in a region within 50 mm from an edge in a width direction perpendicular to a feeding direction of the sheet.

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing unit, an image forming unit, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive image data corresponding to a target image to be formed on a sheet, convert the received image data to modified image data corresponding to a modified image that includes the target image and an added margin on at least one side of the target image in a sheet width direction side, control the image forming unit to form the modified image based on the modified image data, and cause the sheet to be conveyed to the image forming unit such that a positioning of the sheet in the sheet width direction overlaps with the target so that a fixing portion of the fixing unit overlaps with the target image in the modified image formed on the sheet.

The image forming device forms an image on each of a front surface and a back surface of the preceding recording medium conveyed. The reading device reads an outer shape of the preceding recording medium. The control circuitry calculates an amount of deformation of the preceding recording medium based on the outer shape of the preceding recording medium read. The control circuitry corrects at least one of a front image and a back image based on the amount of deformation calculated, to cause the image forming device to form the front image and the back image on a front surface and a back surface, respectively, of the following recording medium.
