The casing internally houses the image forming section. The casing includes a first opening formed in a front surface of the casing and a second opening formed in an upper surface of the casing. The open-close section includes a first cover, a second cover, and an interlocking section. The first cover includes a first cover main body that opens and closes the first opening. The second cover includes a second cover main body that opens and closes the second opening. The interlocking section opens the second cover main body as the first cover main body is opened.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit configured to form an image on a sheet; a first roller configured to feed a sheet, on one surface of which an image was formed by the image forming unit, to a double-sided conveyance path for forming an image on another surface opposite to the one surface of the sheet; a second roller positioned downstream of the first roller in a conveyance direction of the double-sided conveyance path; a third roller positioned downstream of the second roller in the conveyance direction; a fourth roller positioned downstream of the third roller in the conveyance direction; a first driving unit configured to drive the first roller and the second roller; and a second driving unit configured to drive the third roller and the fourth roller.

An image forming device includes a transfer unit that transfers a toner image onto a recording medium that has first and second surfaces and is conveyed in a conveyance direction; a main heating unit arranged downstream of the transfer unit in the conveyance direction, and which contacts and heats the recording medium and fixes the toner image onto the recording medium; a reversing unit that reverses front and back of the recording medium having a first toner image fixed onto the first surface; and a preheating unit arranged between the transfer and main heating units in the conveyance direction and that heats the recording medium having a second toner image transferred onto the second surface. The preheating unit heats the recording medium so that a temperature of the first surface is lower than a softening point of a toner before the recording medium is heated by the main heating unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a transfer unit configured to transfer second charged images superposed with one another onto a holding surface of a recording medium on which at least one first charged image has been electrostatically held and a static eliminating unit disposed upstream from the transfer unit in a transport direction of the recording medium and configured to remove static electricity from the recording medium electrostatically holding the at least one first charged image.

A printer including a transport path; a transport mechanism that is disposed in the transport path and transports the medium in a transporting direction caused when printing is executed by a recording section; a discharge-side transport path that forms a part of a downstream side in the transporting direction from the recording section in the transport path and is movable to a position close to the transport mechanism and a position separated from the transport mechanism; and a control section that controls the recording section and the transport mechanism. An image forming apparatus includes a second conveyance guide diverging from a first conveyance guide at a bifurcation and joining the first conveyance guide at a junction, the bifurcation being downstream of a first position of an image former in a conveyance direction, the junction being upstream of the first position in the conveyance direction, first and second sensors disposed in second and third positions between the junction and the first position along the first conveyance guide, respectively, and a controller that, when a sheet passes through the second and third positions for a second time, detects a surface characteristic of a side of the sheet by the first sensor and determines an image forming condition for the side based on the surface characteristic of the side and a basis weight detected by the second sensor when the sheet passed through the second and third positions for a first time.

In a medium conveying device, a projector projects light, a projection light amount of the light changes, at every fixed time, to a first projection light amount and a second projection light amount less than the first projection light amount, a receiver receives the light projected from the projector, a processor determines, at fixed sampling timings, whether a reception light amount of the receiver is at a first reception light level or a second reception light level smaller than the first reception light level, determines, when the reception light amount alternately changes to the first reception light level and the second reception light level, that a medium is not present on a conveying path, and determines, when the reception light amount is fixed to either the first reception light level or the second reception light level, that the medium is present on the conveying path.

An image forming apparatus includes a sheet feeding part, a sheet conveying path, an image forming unit, a document feeding part, a document conveying path, an image reading unit, and a common discharge part. The sheet conveying path extends from the sheet feeding part to a downstream side in the sheet conveying direction. The image forming unit is disposed on the sheet conveying path. An image reading device includes a marking part that applies a predetermined mark to a margin of a rear end of a document having passed through an image reading position, a mark erasing part that erases the predetermined mark when the document is discharged from a sheet discharge port, and an image data processing unit that determines whether the predetermined mark exists in image data of a document image read by an image reading unit and erases the image data of the document image when it is determined that the predetermined mark exists.
