A device for removing toner attached to a transfer roller in an image forming apparatus is disclosed. The device includes a bar brush to contact an outer circumferential surface of the transfer roller, where the bar brush extends along a part of a longitudinal length of the transfer roller. The device includes an elongated cleaning member to contact the outer circumferential surface of the transfer roller, where the elongated cleaning member extends along the longitudinal length, entirely, of the transfer roller.

A cleaning device includes an accommodating container, a collector, and a remover. The accommodating container has an opening and a receiving port. The collector is in contact with a surface of a cleaned body while rotating, to remove matter on the surface of the cleaned body. The remover has a tip end that is in contact with the surface of the cleaned body to remove the matter. The accommodating container accommodates the collector and the remover. The collector and the remover are exposed to the cleaned body through the opening. The accommodating container receives, through the receiving port, the matter removed from the cleaned body. The accommodating container is supported in such a manner that the accommodating container can rotate to a position where the matter collected in the accommodating container do not leak through the opening, so as to be separated from the cleaned body.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier configured to carry an image; a transfer unit configured to transfer the image to a medium; and a cleaner configured to remove deposits on a surface of the image carrier after passing through a position of the transfer unit, in which when a type of a medium to be used is a first medium, the cleaner improves an ability to remove the deposits from the image carrier as compared with a case where the medium to be used is a second medium having a lower transfer sensitivity than the first medium.

The drive device transmits a driving force to the drive member, the driving force causes a force from the housing-side gear to the unit-side gear, the force includes a component force in a direction to detach the unit from the housing, and the component force is smaller than a static friction force between the unit and the housing.
