An image forming system includes a first image forming apparatus and a second image forming apparatus connected with the first image forming apparatus by a network line. When a second stacking portion of the second image forming apparatus is associated with a first stacking portion of the first image forming apparatus by a setting portion, an arithmetic portion acquires information related to the characteristic of a second recording medium stacked by the second stacking portion via the network line and obtains a degree of deterioration of a feeding rotatable member of the first image forming apparatus based on the acquired information related to the characteristic of the second recording medium.

An image forming apparatus includes a first and second processor. The first processor controls a transport device that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet. The second processor controls a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet. If an image is to be formed at the second section, the first processor causes the first section to perform image formation preparation and causes the device to transport the sheet upon receiving a notification from the second processor in response to a preparation command transmitted to the second processor for performing image formation preparation in the second section. If an image is not to be formed at the second section, the first processor causes the first section to perform the image formation preparation and the transport device to transport the sheet, without receiving the notification from the second processor.

An image forming system includes a first image forming apparatus and a second image forming apparatus connected with the first image forming apparatus by a network line. A controller is configured to control a print engine and a conveyor to form an image on both sides of a sheet. The controller is configured to: in a case where images to be formed on both sides of each of an Nth (N is a positive integer) sheet, an (N+1)th sheet, and an (N+2)th sheet are all monochrome image or all color image, convey the (N+2)th sheet to the print engine and form an image before forming an image on both sides of the (N+1)th sheet; and in a case where the images to be formed on both sides of each of the Nth sheet, the (N+1)th sheet, and the (N+2)th sheet are a mixture of the monochrome image and the color image, convey the (N+2)th sheet to the print engine and form an image after forming an image on both sides of the (N+1)th sheet.

An image forming apparatus includes a first processor configured to control a transporter that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter, and a second processor configured to control a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter. The first processor and the second processor are contained in a single housing. The first processor is configured to perform transport preparation for transporting the sheet at the transporter and receive, from the second processor, a completion notification corresponding to a preparation command, for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section, transmitted to the second processor via an inside of the housing, and subsequently cause the transporter to transport the sheet and the first image forming section to form the image.

A printer includes a first printing unit responsible for one of preceding printing and subsequent printing that are to be performed on one sheet in overprinting, an other of the preceding printing and the subsequent printing being performed by a second printing unit; and a base-printing controller that causes the first printing unit to print a base for printing by the second printing unit in an operation of forming a test pattern for registration between the preceding printing and the subsequent printing on the sheet.

There is provided an image forming system including at least a first image forming apparatus that includes a first image forming unit and an obtaining unit configured to obtain operation-related information related to an operation of the first image forming unit. The image forming system further includes a carryover unit configured to carry over, to a second image forming apparatus, information related to an operation of a second image forming unit of the second image forming apparatus among the operation-related information obtained by the first image forming apparatus when the second image forming apparatus is newly used in the image forming system. The operation-related information includes operation history information of the first image forming unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a first and second processor. The first processor controls a transport device that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet. The second processor controls a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet. If an image is to be formed at the second section, the first processor causes the first section to perform image formation preparation and causes the device to transport the sheet upon receiving a notification from the second processor in response to a preparation command transmitted to the second processor for performing image formation preparation in the second section. If an image is not to be formed at the second section, the first processor causes the first section to perform the image formation preparation and the transport device to transport the sheet, without receiving the notification from the second processor.

An image forming apparatus includes a first plurality of image forming sections that form a first toner image for adjustment and transfer the first toner image for adjustment to a medium; a second plurality of image forming sections that form a second toner image for adjustment and transfer the second toner image for adjustment to the medium; and a detection device configured to detect a misregistration between the first toner image for adjustment transferred to the medium and the second toner image for adjustment transferred to the medium.

In one example of the disclosure, a first print engine is caused to print a first image in a first set of sectors of a substrate. A second print engine is caused to print a second image in a second set of sectors of the substrate. The second print engine is caused to print a cover-up image over an incidence of the first image printed by the first print engine. The second print engine is caused to print a calibration image upon the cover-up image.
