An image forming apparatus includes a port to permit a imaging unit to be installed. A solid head unit has a base, a lifting mechanism, a print head, and a first guide. The lifting mechanism moves the print head up and down. The first guide includes a first guide rail facing the print head that limits the movement of the print head to a first range when the print head and a second, greater range when the print head is raised. The imaging unit includes a photoconductive drum in a drum case that includes a projection facing the solid head unit. The projection is configured to insert into a hole in the print head when the print head is raised.

An image forming apparatus includes a housing, an exposure device attached to and detachable from the housing, an insertion slot on the housing for the exposure device, a positioning member disposed at a position higher than the insertion slot, the positioning member having an inclined plane, and space that appears under the exposure device when the exposure device is attached to the prescribed position. In the image forming apparatus, the positioning member guides the exposure device to a prescribed position of the exposure device.

A first joint rotatably couples a link member with a first exposure head unit. A second joint rotatably couples the link member with a second exposure head unit. A first rotation center of the first exposure head unit is closer to an end of a top cover than a second rotation center of the second exposure head unit is. The link member is configured to, when the top cover moves from a closed position to an open position, cause the first exposure head unit to rotatably move in a direction in which a first optical member approaches the end of the top cover and cause the second exposure head unit to rotatably move in a direction in which a second optical member approaches the end. A distance between the first rotation center and the first joint is larger than a distance between the second rotation center and the second joint.

An arrangement is therefore employed in which a flexible flat cable is guided by a guide member situated at a position facing a metal rear plate and the flexible flat cable extending from a connector to the metal rear plate is brought into contact with a wall portion of the metal rear plate so that the flexible flat cable is grounded.

An image forming apparatus is provided which forms an image on a recording medium. The image forming apparatus includes a housing; a plurality of photosensitive members which bear respective toner images; a scanning unit which scans surfaces of the plurality of photosensitive members by laser light in accordance with image information; and a recording medium container which contains the recording medium and is detachably mounted in the housing. The scanning unit is disposed under the plurality of photosensitive members and over the recording medium container in the vertical direction, and other components are not interposed between the scanning unit and the recording medium container in the vertical direction.

An arrangement is therefore employed in which a flexible flat cable is guided by a guide member situated at a position facing a metal rear plate and the flexible flat cable extending from a connector to the metal rear plate is brought into contact with a wall portion of the metal rear plate so that the flexible flat cable is grounded.

A movement member that causes a cleaning member to move so as to reciprocally move on a transparent member is provided. A cleaning process is performed in accordance with an instruction on a number of times of movement of the movement member.

A first joint rotatably couples a link member with a first exposure head unit. A second joint rotatably couples the link member with a second exposure head unit. A first rotation center of the first exposure head unit is closer to an end of a top cover than a second rotation center of the second exposure head unit is. A distance between the first rotation center and the first joint is larger than a distance between the second rotation center and the second joint.

An example shutter unit includes a motor including a driving shaft to rotate in a first rotation direction and to rotate in a second rotation direction opposed to the first rotation direction, a first shutter part to selectively expose a light window by receiving a driving force transferred from the driving shaft when the driving shaft rotates in the first rotation direction or the second rotation direction, and a second shutter part to selectively expose a sensor by receiving the driving force transferred from the driving shaft when the driving shaft rotates in the second rotation direction.
