An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a body, an intermediate transfer unit, a cover, and a guide rail. The body has a bottle housing hole in which a toner bottle is removably inserted. The intermediate transfer unit includes an intermediate transfer belt and a plurality of rollers to drive the intermediate transfer belt and is removably disposed between the image forming device and the bottle housing hole. The intermediate transfer unit and the toner bottle are accessible from a front side of the body. The openable and closable cover is disposed at an inlet-and-outlet port of the bottle housing hole. The guide rail is disposed at a lower side of the bottle housing hole to slidably guide the intermediate transfer unit and has a front-side end extended to a position crossing at least a vertical projection line of the cover on the front side of the body.

A pressing device includes an intermediate transfer unit, a secondary transfer unit, a presser, and a drive transmitter. The intermediate transfer unit transfers and conveys a toner image. The secondary transfer unit faces the intermediate transfer unit to form a nip portion between the secondary transfer unit and the intermediate transfer unit and transfers the toner image onto a conveyed material at the nip portion. The presser applies a pressing force for pressing the secondary transfer unit to the intermediate transfer unit at the nip portion. The drive transmitter transmits the pressing force and a conveyance driving force to a driven transmitter of the secondary transfer unit, is restricted in position by the presser, and is movable together with the presser.

A transfer unit includes an endless belt member, belt support rollers, a frame, a meandering detecting sensor, an alignment adjusting mechanism, and a conveyance guide disposed on a downstream side of the belt member with respect to a recording-medium conveyance direction. The alignment adjusting mechanism, based on a detection result of the meandering detecting sensor, causes one end portion of a downstream-side belt support roller of the belt support rollers which is adjacent to the conveyance guide to move along the recording-medium conveyance direction. The alignment adjusting mechanism causes a first end portion of the conveyance guide disposed on a same side as the one end portion of the downstream-side belt support roller to move following movement of the one end portion of the downstream-side belt support roller, and thereby maintains a distance between the belt member and the conveyance guide constant.
