According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a first temperature sensor, a second temperature sensor, a cooling mechanism, and a controller. The first temperature sensor detects the internal temperature of a machine body where the image forming unit is arranged. The second temperature sensor detects the environmental temperature of the environment where the machine body is placed. The cooling mechanism cools the image forming unit. The controller adjusts the cooling capacity of the cooling mechanism based on the result of comparing the internal temperature detected by the first temperature sensor with a first threshold, and the result of comparing the environmental temperature detected by the second temperature sensor with a second threshold lower than the first threshold.

A control portion of an image forming apparatus causes an operation of a first fan start and then causes a second fan to start. The time when the operation of the second fan starts is from a predetermined time before the time when the leading end of one sheet reaches a fixing nip to the time when the rear end of the one sheet passes through the fixing nip. In this way, since the second fan operates after the first fan operates, fine particle dust is hardly discharged to the outside of the image forming apparatus, and it is possible to suppress dew condensation inside the image forming apparatus.

A closest position is defined where the developer roller and a photosensitive body are closest to one another. The air flow passage extends from inside the developing device and forms an air flow directed toward an upstream side of the closest position, relative to the rotation direction of the developer roller.
