A LIDAR system comprises a spatial light modulator for displaying a diffractive pattern comprising a hologram of a structured light pattern that is projected onto a scene. The structured light pattern comprises an array of light spots and a light source for illuminating the diffractive pattern to form a holographic reconstruction of the light pattern. A detection subsystem comprises light detection elements that detect light from a respective individual field of view (FOV) of the scene and output a respective detected light signal. A first subset of the individual FOVs are illuminated by a light spot of the light pattern and a second subset are not illuminated by the light spot. The system comprises a processor for identifying noise in a first detected light signal, relating to an individual FOV of the first subset, using a second detected light signal, relating to an individual FOV of the second subset.

Holographic display apparatus and operating method thereof

A holographic display apparatus and a holographic display method are provided. The holographic display apparatus determines a representative depth from 3D image data; calculates a computer generated hologram (CGH) corresponding to the representative depth on the 3D image data; obtains the modulated CGH by modulating a phase of the CGH to increase an eye box; modulates a light according to the modulated CGH and generates a hologram image; and forms the generated hologram image at the representative depth.

Disclosed are high-density energy directing devices and systems thereof for two-dimensional, stereoscopic, light field and holographic head-mounted displays. In general, the head-mounted display system includes one or more energy devices and one or more energy relay elements, each energy relay element having a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is disposed in energy propagation paths of the one or more energy devices and the second surface of each of the one or more energy relay elements is arranged to form a singular seamless energy surface. A separation between edges of any two adjacent second surfaces is less than a minimum perceptible contour as defined by the visual acuity of a human eye having better than 20/40 vision at a distance from the singular seamless energy surface, the distance being greater than the lesser of: half of a height of the singular seamless energy surface, or half of a width of the singular seamless energy surface.

There is provided a holographic projector comprising a processing engine, spatial light modulator (403B), light source (401B) and light-receiving surface (405B). The processing engine outputs a computer-generated diffractive pattern defining a propagation distance to an image plane. The spatial light modulator displays the computer-generated diffractive pattern. The light source illuminates the spatial light modulator at an angle of incidence (theta) greater than zero. The light-receiving surface receives spatially-modulated light from the spatial light modulator. The light-receiving surface is substantially parallel to the spatial light modulator (alpha-theta). The light-receiving surface is separated from the spatial light modulator by the propagation distance defined by the computer-generated diffractive pattern.

The holographic optical element includes a substrate, and a recording material layer in which at least two groups of interference fringes are recorded; each group includes a first interference fringe formed by a first signal light and a first reference light respectively incident from opposite sides of the recording material layer, and a second interference fringe formed by a second signal light and a second reference light respectively incident from opposite sides of the recording material layer; the second signal light passes through a lens before incidence; incident angles of the first signal light and the second reference light are equal; incident directions of the first signal light corresponding to respective groups are different, and focal lengths of the lenses are not equal.

Provided are an improved holographic reconstruction apparatus and method. A holographic reconstruction method includes: obtaining an object hologram of a measurement target object; extracting reference light information from the obtained object hologram; calculating a wavenumber vector constant of the extracted reference light information, and generating digital reference light by calculating a compensation term of the reference light information by using the calculated wavenumber vector constant; extracting curvature aberration information from the object hologram, and then generating digital curvature in which a curvature aberration is compensated for; calculating a compensated object hologram by multiplying the compensation term of the reference light information by the obtained object hologram; extracting phase information of the compensated object hologram; and reconstructing 3-dimensional (3D) shape information and quantitative thickness information of the measurement target object by calculating the quantitative thickness information of the measurement target object by using the extracted phase information of the compensated object hologram.

A method of manufacturing a holographic optical element, including: irradiating a first surface of a photosensitive substrate with a first layer, and irradiating a second surface of the photosensitive substrate with a second laser. The light emitted by the first laser is spread in an irradiation direction and the light emitted by the second laser is collected in the irradiation direction to form a plurality of groups and a plurality of overlapping angles formed by a progress direction of the light emitted by the first laser and the progress direction of the light emitted by the second laser at a predetermined location of a photosensitive area, and each of the plurality of the overlapping angles are different from each other. A display device including the holographic optical element measured using this method.

Systems and methods for an integrated holographic reconstruction tool with optical distortion removal and de-twinning

Embodiments described herein provide an integrated holographic reconstruction platform that enables a user to perform three-dimensional visualization of a phenomenon by reconstructing holograms using a combination of normalization and propagation algorithms, which yields better results with significantly less demanding processing time and computing resources. Specifically, the integrated holographic reconstruction platform may be implemented as an all-in-one computer software that includes software components of digital holographic reconstruction, de-twinning and optical distortion removal via a user-friendly graphical interface.
