A predetermined lighting pattern is projected on a surface to be illuminated and the lighting pattern is displaced on the surface to be illuminated. A laser beam generated by a laser light source is broadened by a magnifying lens so as to generate a divergent light. The divergent light is shaped by the collimation lens into a parallel illumination light, and the parallel illumination light is caused to be incident on an incident plane of a diffraction optical element which records a hologram image. A diffracted light from the diffraction optical element forms the lighting pattern as a hologram reconstructed image on the surface to be illuminated. By translating the collimation lens by a collimation-lens drive unit along a movement plane that is orthogonal to an optical axis of the laser beam, the lighting pattern can be displaced on the surface to be illuminated.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL SCANLESS HOLOGRAPHIC OPTOGENETICS WITH TEMPORAL FOCUSING

Apparatus and methods for 3D-Scanless Holographic Optogenetics with Temporal focusing (3D-SHOT), which allows precise, simultaneous photo-activation of arbitrary sets of neurons anywhere within the addressable volume of the microscope. Soma-targeted (ST) optogenetic tools, ST-ChroME and IRES-ST-eGtACR1, optimized for multiphoton activation and suppression are also provided. The methods use point-cloud holography to place multiple copies of a temporally focused disc matching the dimensions of a designated neuron's cell body. Experiments in cultured cells, brain slices, and in living mice demonstrate single-neuron spatial resolution even when optically targeting randomly distributed groups of neurons in 3D.

Light Field Display System Based Amusement Park Attraction

A light filed (LF) display system for displaying holographic content to viewers in an amusement park (e.g., as part of an amusement park ride). The LF display system in an amusement park includes LF display modules tiled together to form an array of LF modules. In some embodiments, the LF display system includes a tracking system and/or a viewer profiling module. The tracking system and viewer profiling module can monitor and store characteristics of viewers on the amusement park ride, a viewer profile describing a viewer, and/or responses of viewers to the holographic content during the amusement park ride. The holographic content created for display on an amusement park ride can be based on any of the monitored or stored information.
