Image processing techniques using digital holographic microscopy

Digital holographic microscopy and related image processing techniques are described. A hologram captured in an image frame is split into different depths while a new hologram is being captured. Image slices of the hologram are determined and using free space impulse responses that are pre-calculated at a different precision than processing operations using the holographic data. Each computation is calculated in parallel based on the number of available processing cores and threads. The image slices are combined into a 2D array or 3D array to permit further processing of the combined array to count and size particles in the image frame. The reconstructed hologram is displayed at a subsequent image frame than that used to capture the hologram.

HOLOGRAPHIC DISPLAY OF CONTENT BASED ON VISIBILITY

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to holographic display of content based on visibility. Low visibility of a 2-dimensional (2D) display with respect to a user can be detected. In response to detecting the low visibility, holographic content display characteristics of holographic content to be generated from the 2D display can be determined. Based on the determined holographic content display characteristics, holographic content can be generated via a holographic display of the 2D display.

Hologram stage setting

Disclosed is a hologram stage setting which is configured to apply a net screen of a grid network structure coated by a ceramic ball lens on the front part of a stage and directly project images, thereby enabling performance without specific limits on general multi-purpose stages instead of special stages, solving high cost problems caused by using a conventional foil screen, implementing high-resolution images, enhancing durability, and performing easy maintenance and repair. The hologram stage setting includes: a rear screen which is installed on the rear part of a stage to display a rear background image; a lower screen which is installed on the lower part of the stage to display a lower background image; a front screen which is installed on the front part of the stage to display a front hologram image; and a front hologram image projector which generates and projects the front hologram image.

Viewer tracking in a projection system

A method for displaying a hologram to a variable direction including using circuitry to determine a direction from a holographic projector to a viewer for projecting a hologram to a viewer, and projecting a hologram in the determined direction, in which the projecting the hologram includes reflecting from a same mirror as the determining the direction of the viewer, and the circuitry controls the projecting the hologram to a direction corrected for a difference in direction between a projecting unit and a tracking unit relative to the mirror. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

Producing images of security features

Processes and systems are described that can produce images including both three dimensional holographic images and two dimensional variable data, which can provide personalized security features in a document. A photosensitive film can be pressed against a first reflective optical device. A laser beam can be directed through a selected first area of the photosensitive film onto the first reflective optical device to produce a three dimensional holographic image in the photosensitive film. A previously masked second area of the photosensitive film can be pressed against a second reflective optical device. The laser beam can project an image constructed by a spatial light modulator and can be directed through the second area of the photosensitive film onto the second reflective optical device to produce a two dimensional image in the second area. During the process, the web tension of the photosensitive film is controlled.

A system for displaying, to viewers who do not need to wear special eyewear, static three dimensional (3D) images that are dynamically augmented with two dimensional (2D) images. The system includes a holographic print with a front surface and a back opaque layer. The system includes a projector projecting light onto the front surface. The projected light includes first light reconstructing a hologram from the front surface of the holographic print and second light displaying 2D content on the front surface. The projector is positioned to cause the first light to strike the front surface within a range of hologram reconstruction angles. The projector is a video projector, and the first light is even illumination in the form of white light while the second light includes the displayed 2D content. The displayed 2D content includes animation or video content.
