A method for digitally generating a hologram plane from a three-dimensional scene, cut into a plurality of planes parallel to the hologram plane. The method includes for a current plane: counting a number of points of the non-zero amplitude scene; choosing a first or second technique for propagating a light wave emitted by the current plane as a function of a number of points of non-zero amplitude included in the current plane and with a preset threshold value, the first, point-based technique calculating the propagation of a sum of light waves emitted by point sources constituted by the points of the scene portion of a non-zero amplitude of the current plane on a following plane, and the second, field-based technique, globally calculating a light wave emitted by the scene portion situated in the current plane on a given plane; and processing the current plane according to the chosen propagation technique.

A head-up display for a vehicle. The head-up display comprises a projector and processor. The projector is arranged to project image content such that it is visible from an eye-box. The processor is arranged to receive captured images of a scene visible from the eye-box. The processor is arranged, at a first time to: detect a first object in a scene and instruct the image projector to project an icon (e.g. computer graphic) that appears, from the viewing position, to be coincident with the first object. The processor is further arranged to, at a second time later than the first time to: detect a second object in a line of sight from the eye-box position to the first object and instruct the image projector to change the visual appearance of the projected icon in response to the detection of the second object.

Increasing an area from which reconstruction from a computer generated hologram may be viewed

A method of enlarging an observation window from which the reconstruction from a Computer Generated Hologram (CGH) may be viewed, including reproducing a CGH, and shifting a location of an exit pupil or observation window of an optical system reproducing the CGH. A method of increasing a viewing angle from which the reconstruction from a Computer Generated Hologram (CGH) may be seen, including producing a plurality of instances of a CGH, projecting each one of the instances in a different direction so that a first exit pupil of a first instance is close to a second exit pupil of a second instance. An optical system including a plurality of exit pupils associated with a plurality of optical components, further including a light deflector for jittering a location of a first exit pupil so as to increase an overlap of the first exit pupil with a second exit pupil. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

A holographic display system for generating a super hologram with full parallax in different fields of view in the horizontal and vertical directions. The display system includes assemblies or subsystems each adapted to combine holographic displays and coarse integral displays to produce or display a coarse integral hologram. Briefly, the display system described herein teaches techniques for enhancing operations of coarse integral holographic (CIH) displays. The enhanced CIH displays may utilize ganged scanners, may operate scanners to provide boustrophedon scanning, may be configured to add color information such by view sequential color hologram display and scanning, may replace or supplement X-Y scanning abilities with a resonant scanner, and may replace physical lenslet arrays by generating and displaying a holographic lenslet for each elemental hologram used to create the super hologram.
