A method for light detection and ranging comprises a forming a first light pattern within a region of a scene by holographic projection. The first light pattern comprises n light spots arranged in a regular array. A light return signal is received from each light detection element of an array of light detection elements directed at the region of the scene. The intensity of the light return signals is assessed. If the light return signals do not meet at least one signal validation criterion, a second light pattern is formed within the region of the scene by holographic projection. The second light pattern comprises m light spots arranged in a regular array, wherein m ≠ n. A time-of-flight in association with each light spot of the second light pattern is then determined.

Disclosed is a method of generating a volume hologram using a point cloud and a mesh, in which a weight is given to a brightness of a light source according to a direction of a light in order to record a hologram of better quality. The method includes: (a) acquiring multi-view depth and color images; (b) generating point cloud data of a three-dimensional object from the acquired multi-view depth and color images; (c) generating mesh data of the three-dimensional object from the point cloud data of the three-dimensional object; (d) calculating a normal vector of each mesh from the mesh data of the three-dimensional object; (e) extracting three-dimensional data at a user viewpoint from the mesh data of the three-dimensional object by using the normal vector of the mesh; and (f) generating hologram data from three-dimensional data at the user viewpoint.

Example embodiments relate to imaging devices for in-line holographic imaging of objects. One embodiment includes an imaging device for in-line holographic imaging of an object. The imaging device includes a set of light sources configured to output light in confined illumination cones. The imaging device also includes an image sensor that includes a set of light-detecting elements. The set of light sources are configured to output light such that the confined illumination cones are arranged side-by-side and illuminate a specific part of the object. The image sensor is arranged such that the light-detecting elements detect a plurality of interference patterns. Each interference pattern is formed by diffracted light from the object originating from a single light source and undiffracted light from the same single light source. At least a subset of the set of light-detecting elements is arranged to detect light relating to not more than one interference pattern.

Systems and methods are provided for a digital holography range Doppler receiver. The subject system transmits outgoing electromagnetic radiation to a target, and provides a first reference local oscillator (LO) beam to a first detector and a second reference LO beam to a second detector, based on the outgoing electromagnetic radiation. The system receives reflected electromagnetic radiation from the target through a first optical receiver and a second optical receiver having a smaller diameter, and determines range and velocity of the target simultaneously using an interference with the second reference LO beam. The system applies time and frequency offsets to the first reference LO beam based on the measured range and velocity to align the first reference LO beam with the reflected electromagnetic radiation, and produces an image of the target using the first reference LO beam having the applied time and frequency offsets.
