The present invention is a system and method for extending a projection boundary for a holographic display device. The system includes a display device with electroactive polymer strips attached to the bottom of the display device and two microfluidic display layers affixed to the top. The two microfluidic display layers have holographic projectors therebetween. Light is projected from the holographic projects through the second microfluidic layer and holographic objects are created where the projected light converges. A user changes the dimensions or location of a holographic object using finger gestures. They system calculates the focal length required to make the change instructed by the user and the microfluidic display layers deform to create a convex lens in the second microfluidic layer with the focal length required to make the change instructed by the user.

Method of patterning a surface of an object or a tool with nano and/or micro structure elements having dimensions in a range of 1 nanometer to 1 millimeter, comprising the steps of producing a flexible mask with said nano or micro structure pattern formed on a surface of said flexible mask, chemically activating said surface of the flexible mask and/or said surface to be patterned of the tool, placing said patterned surface of the flexible mask in contact with said surface to be patterned of the object or tool, promoting a covalent bonding reaction between said patterned surface of the flexible mask in contact with said surface to be patterned, removing the flexible mask from the tool whereby a layer of said flexible mask remains bonded to said surface to be patterned of the tool, etching said surface to be patterned of the tool whereby the bonded layer of flexible mask material resists etching. An anti-activation mask defining a periphery of the surface area to be patterned, or peripheries of the surface area to be patterned if there are a plurality of separate portions of surface area to be patterned, is deposited on the flexible mask prior to placing the patterned surface of the flexible mask on the surface to be patterned. The anti-activation mask prevents bonding of the flexible mask to the surface of the object or tool in areas where the anti-activation mask is present.

A display device includes an optical sensor configured to image a user eye, an image source configured to provide image light, a holographic film including a plurality of holograms, and a controller. Each hologram is recorded with a same reference beam but recorded differently so as to differently diffract image light received from the light source. The controller is configured to determine, via the optical sensor, a position of the user eye, and adjust, based on the determined position of the user eye, a state of the holographic film such that a particular hologram of the plurality of holograms diffracts image light to the position of the user eye.
