A device for use with a respiratory mask comprises a pillow having at least one recess structured to receive the mask so that the pillow does not exert substantial pressure on the mask, and a cover that at least partially covers the exterior surface of the pillow and substantially follows the contours of the at least one recess. A method of using a respiratory mask comprises providing a pillow having at least one recess, positioning a cover on the pillow so that the cover substantially follows the contours of the at least one recess, positioning a respiratory mask on the head of a user, and positioning the user's head on the cover and pillow such that the mask is received in the at least one recess so that the pillow and cover do not exert substantial pressure on the mask.

The device employs a support pillow insert surrounded by a pillow casing having planar top and bottom surfaces and a sidewall extending between them. An insert engage able in the casing provides substantially planar support surfaces with a centrally located passage providing a relief for positioning one's head on the pillow. Proper support and spine alignment is provided by a shoulder portion of the pillow for the neck which may be formed of different material than the pillow, or varied in with or compressive force using inserts.

A rear end portion (154) of each frame arm (144) may project more rearwardly than the hinge (142) such that when the rear end portions (154) of each frame arm (144) are pressed against a surface (106), the frame arms (144) pivot thereby together towards each other and more closely around and toward the user's neck.

The pillow utilizes one or more of the following features: 1) a dimensionally correct platform for the proper sleep posture of a majority of body types on a wide array of mattress types; 2) A non-crush zone integrated cervical support roll which can be adjusted for extended durations of supportive comfort. (The rollin and of itselfis unique compared to the standard of care because of its foam densities and its semi-hollowed out section); and 3) A sleep posture platform with a side sleeping position and a back-sleeping position. The pillow standardizes care by placement of the support roll inside a dimensionally correct platform using different materials.

A tri-sectional pillow including a central headbed set between two bolster sections on opposing ends. The headbed is preferably rectangular in shape with the bolsters being taller and rounded. The bolsters are conical in shape, including wide or tall sides set on opposing ends of the pillow. One bolster being larger than the other, the smallest portion of the large bolster being of the same size/diameter as the larger end of the smaller booster. The template of the fabric case to enclose the headbed and bolsters is a parallelogram, with the bolster sections being abnormal trapezoids.
