A gesture controlled calculator has a touch screen controlled by a microprocessor. The touch screen receives a multiplication problem input by a user through a virtual keyboard. After the problem is entered, the calculator breaks up the problem into easy multiplication problems and then very easy multiplication problems in response to touch gestures by the user. The very easy multiplication problems are then presented on the graphical user interface of the touch screen as columns of virtual digits cards. The virtual digit cards are added together in response to touch gestures by the user. The solutions to the very easy multiplication problems are then presented as columns of digit cards. These digit cards are then added together in response to touch gestures by the user. The solution to the multiplication problem is then presented in the graphical user interface.

There is provided a matrix calculation apparatus. The apparatus includes: a matrix calculation formula display controller configured to display a matrix calculation formula on a display unit, wherein the matrix calculation formula comprises a first matrix; a matrix display controller configured to display a second matrix on the display unit; a submatrix receiver configured to input the second matrix into a certain element of the first matrix as a submatrix of the first matrix in response to a user operation; and a matrix size change display controller configured to change a size of the first matrix in accordance with a size of the second matrix and the certain element of the first matrix into which the second matrix is input and then display the matrix calculation formula.

A listing of data is displayed in a tablet swiping calculator function display with the listing of data including two or more numerical data entries. A capability to select at least one mathematical operation is provided through the tablet swiping calculator function display along with the capability to select at least two of the two or more numerical data entries through the tablet swiping calculator function display. When the at least two of the two or more numerical data entries are selected, the selected mathematical operation is automatically performed on the selected numerical data entries and the results are displayed on the tablet swiping calculator function display.
