SOLID STATE DRIVE AND WRITE OPERATION METHOD
20220342591 · 2022-10-27 ·

Disclosed are a solid state drive and a write operation method. The solid state drive comprises: a controller, receiving write data from outside and comprising a first cache unit for storing the write data; a Flash memory, receiving the write data sent by the first cache unit according to a first instruction of the controller; a second cache unit, storing the write data from the first cache unit as backup data, and sending the backup data to the Flash memory according to a second instruction of the controller. The second instruction is obtained after the write data fails to be written into the Flash memory under the first instruction, so that the backup data can continue to be called if write operation fails. By combining advantages of the first and second cache units, efficiency and quality of write operations are improved and bandwidth requirements are lowered.

MEMORY INSTRUCTION FOR MEMORY TIERS

Various embodiments provide for one or more processor instructions and memory instructions that enable a memory sub-system to copy, move, or swap data across (e.g., between) different memory tiers of the memory sub-system, where each of the memory tiers is associated with different memory locations (e.g., different physical memory locations) on one or more memory devices of the memory sub-system.

System and Method for Lockless Destaging of Metadata Pages
20220342825 · 2022-10-27 ·

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving a flush request for a metadata page stored in a storage array of a multi-node storage system. The flush request may be queued on a flush request lock queue on at least one node of the multi-node storage system. One or more flush requests may be processed, via multiple nodes of the multi-node storage system, on the metadata page based upon, at least in part, the flush request lock queue.

ELASTIC PERSISTENT MEMORY REGIONS

A system includes a first memory device having a region allocated as a first persistent memory region (PMR) having a first set of pages, a second memory device comprising a non-volatile memory device having a region allocated as a second PMR region having a second set of pages, and at least one processing device, operatively coupled to the first memory device and the second memory device, to implement a PMR mechanism to cause the second PMR region to be accessible through the first PMR region.

SMOOTH FLUSHING OF CACHED WRITE DATA
20220334965 · 2022-10-20 ·

A method of performing write operations that have been received by a data storage apparatus is provided. The method includes (a) storing page descriptors for received write operations within temporary storage, each page descriptor indicating respective data to be written; (b) upon storing each page descriptor, organizing that page descriptor into a shared working-set structure; and (c) operating a plurality of flushers to persist the data indicated by respective page descriptors to long-term persistent storage based on organization of the page descriptors in the shared working-set structure, each flusher accessing page descriptors via the shared working-set structure. An apparatus, system, and computer program product for performing a similar method are also provided.

MAINTAINING AN ACTIVE TRACK DATA STRUCTURE TO DETERMINE ACTIVE TRACKS IN CACHE TO PROCESS

Provided are a computer program product for managing tracks in a storage in a cache. An active track data structure indicates tracks in the cache that have an active status. An active bit in a cache control block for a track is set to indicate active for the track indicated as active in the active track data structure. In response to processing the cache control block, a determination is made, from the cache control block for the track, whether the track is active or inactive to determine processing for the cache control block.

TECHNIQUES FOR ZONED NAMESPACE (ZNS) STORAGE USING MULTIPLE ZONES
20230075437 · 2023-03-09 ·

Described are examples for storing, in a first zone cache, one or more logical blocks (LBs) corresponding to a data chunk, writing, for each LB in the data chunk, a cache element of a cache entry that points to the LB in the first zone cache, where the cache entry includes multiple cache elements corresponding to the multiple LBs of the data chunk, writing, for the cache entry, a table entry in a mapping table that points to the cache entry, and when a storage policy is triggered for the cache entry, writing the multiple LBs, pointed to by each cache element of the cache entry, as contiguous LBs in an isolation block for the data chunk in a second zone stream, and updating the table entry to point to the isolation block in the second zone stream.

WRITE CACHE MANAGEMENT
20230127321 · 2023-04-27 ·

A storage control system maintains a write cache in a non-volatile memory device of primary memory of a storage node. The write cache comprises a cyclic buffer and pointers to manage the write cache and track a tail location and head location of the write cache. The storage control system receives a write request from a host system, which comprises a data item to be written to primary storage. The received data item is written together with an associated metadata item at the head location of the write cache. The items in the write cache are arranged in a cyclic write order from the tail location to the head location. The storage control system sends an acknowledgment to the host system that the data item is successfully written to the primary storage, in response to the received data item and the associated metadata item being stored in the write cache.

PREFETCHING DATA IN A DISTRIBUTED STORAGE SYSTEM
20230071111 · 2023-03-09 ·

Data can be prefetched in a distributed storage system. For example, a computing device can receive a message with metadata associated with at least one request for an input/output operation from a message queue. The computing device can determine, based on the message from the message queue, an additional IO operation predicted to be requested by a client subsequent to the at least one request for the IO operation. The computing device can send a notification to a storage node of a plurality of storage nodes associated with the additional IO operation for prefetching data of the additional IO operation prior to the client requesting the additional IO operation.
