A receipt server is connected over a network to a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, and includes a network interface, a storage unit, and a processor. The processor controls the network interface and the storage unit to store electronic receipt data received from the POS terminal, determine whether the electronic receipt data indicates that a digital authentication service should be applied thereto, when the electronic receipt data indicates that the digital authentication service should be applied thereto, and request and receive a time stamp token (TST) from a time stamping authority server, wherein the TST is generated based on a hash of the electronic receipt data and a time of generation. In addition, when the TST is received, the processor stores the TST in association with the electronic receipt data, and in response to a request for certified electronic receipt data, transmits the electronic receipt data with the associated TST.

An electronic receipt system includes first and second servers communicating with a user device. The first server is configured to, in response to a first request including a company ID from a user device, transmit screen data including instructions to display on the user device a company screen that includes a link for accessing an electronic receipt service. Various exemplary outdoor payment terminals and methods of using outdoor payment terminals are provided. In general, data signals can be transmitted between a payment terminal configured to receive payment information from a customer and a point of sale (POS) configured to authorize the customer's payment and provide various commands, e.g., instructions, to the payment terminal. A payment terminal can include a translator configured to translate commands transmitted from the POS to the payment terminal so the payment terminal carries out the type of command requested by the POS but executes in a way that accounts for payment terminal functionality unknown to the POS.

According to an embodiment, a point-of-sale terminal includes a controller that performs registration processing to register items being purchased by a customer in a sales transaction. The controller also performs payment processing for the sales transaction. The controller determines whether a portable terminal of the customer can receive electronic receipt information that can sent via a near-field communication device or the like. If the portable terminal can receive electronic receipt information sent via near-field communication device or the like, the controller generates electronic receipt information for the sales transaction, then transmit the generated electronic receipt information to the portable terminal using near-field communication or the like.

An apparatus for processing payment card data is disclosed (106). The apparatus comprises a tokenisation module (212) operative to generate a token from payment card data, the tokenisation module complying with a security requirement for payment cards; and a registration module (218) operative to transmit the token to a token store for storage therein, the token store being external to the tokenisation module (212). Methods and systems for improved exit detection, payment confirmation, and payment authorization verification are provided. In one embodiment, a method is provided that includes transmitting an audio transmission that includes a unique identifier of a facility. The audio transmission may be transmitted to a computing device, which may transmit in response an audio transmission containing a unique identifier and a payment confirmation identifier. The payment confirmation identifier may be compared to a database of payment information and it may be determined that the payment confirmation identifier corresponds to a completed payment. It may further be determined that the user has completed a payment and is permitted to exit the facility.

A method of performing a point of sale (POS) payment transaction at a merchant location, the method including, in one or more electronic processing devices: (a) receiving a transaction request including an indication of a transaction identifier from the user device; (b) retrieving an indication of payment information from a merchant system using the transaction identifier; (c) requesting user account information from the user device; (d) receiving the user account information in response to user input; and (e) initiating payment authorization with a payment processing system using the payment information and user account information to enable the payment transaction to be performed.
