A method for watermarking a three-dimensional object is disclosed. The watermarking method comprises computing shape descriptor of a local neighborhood of a current vertex among the plurality of vertices of the three-dimensional object; obtaining a target shape descriptor from the shape descriptor using a quantization grid associated with a watermark payload; and modifying said local neighborhood wherein a position of at least one vertex of said local neighborhood is modified such that a shape descriptor of said modified local neighborhood is close to said target shape descriptor and wherein said current vertex is not modified. A method for obtaining payload from a three-dimensional object, a 3D object carrying a watermark and devices implementing the disclosed methods are further disclosed.

Content watermarking

In an embodiment, a method of decoding a watermarked video includes receiving a video including a watermark and three or more pilot signals. The method includes attempting to detect the watermark and retrieve a corresponding message in the video based on one or more decoding starting points of the video. The method includes outputting the message if the attempt is successful. If the attempt fails, the method includes detecting the pilot signals in the video; based on the detected pilot signals, estimating a geometric distortion of the video; inverting the geometric distortion for the video to generate a warped video; and attempting to detect the watermark and retrieve the corresponding message in the warped video based on one or more decoding starting points of the warped video.

System and method of watermarking

A method of watermarking video images of a particular instance of a virtual environment is provided. The method includes selecting a plurality of virtual objects for inclusion within the virtual environment and respectively altering a physical property of the selected virtual objects from a reference value to a respective different value. The respective different value is selected responsive to respective identification values of identification data associated with that particular instance of the virtual environment. The physical property has a visible effect on the appearance of the virtual objects. The method further includes rendering, for display, the virtual environment comprising the altered virtual objects.

Detecting conflicts between multiple different encoded signals within imagery, using only a subset of available image data

This disclosure relates to advanced signal processing technology including steganographic embedding and digital watermarking. One combination disclosed in the description includes an apparatus comprising: memory storing an image comprising a plurality of color channels; means for locating image areas including an encoded signal with each color channel of the plurality of color channels, said means for locating identifying a plurality of image areas; means for generating one or more detectability measures corresponding to the encoded signal for each of the plurality of image areas; means for determining whether the encoded signal can be decoded from the plurality of image areas to obtain a plural-bit message component carried therein; means for selecting, per color channel, only one (1) image area as a validation point based on one or more generated detectability measures for that color channel, and based on whether the one (1) image area includes a decodable plural-bit message component; and means for generating information associated with a spatial location of each of the validation points in the image. Of course, other technology, features and combinations are described as well.

The present invention may include, in response to embedding at least one digital security mark in a visual communication, securing the visual communication. The present invention may also include preventing, based on the embedded at least one digital security mark, an image capture of the secured visual communication.

Seam carving based anonymization

As image source attribution techniques have become significantly sophisticated and are now becoming commonplace, there is a growing need for capabilities to anonymize images and videos. Focusing on the photo response non-uniformity noise pattern based sensor fingerprinting technique, this work evaluates the effectiveness of well-established seam carving method to defend against sensor fingerprint matching. We consider ways in which seam-carving based anonymization can be countered and propose enhancements over conventional seam carving method. Our results show that applying geometrical distortion in addition to seam carving will make counter attack very ineffective both in terms of computational complexity and accuracy.

For example, a region of pixels can be identified in a video frame, and one or more pixel characteristics of the region of pixels can be determined. Based on the one or more pixel characteristics of the region of pixels, at least one pixel characteristic of a subset of pixels from the region of pixels can be modified in order to encode a set of data into the region of pixels. An output frame can be provided that includes the modified at least one pixel characteristics for the subset of pixels.
