SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR UNIVERSAL TOLL MODULE

A system includes a communication device and a user interface. The communication device includes a universal toll module configured to transmit a toll signal that includes at least one electronic toll code to be communicated to an electronic toll system. The universal toll module is communicatively coupled to a vehicle bus of the vehicle. The user interface is communicatively coupled to the vehicle bus.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR INTERCEPTING AND ANALYZING SIGNALS EMITTED FROM VEHICLES

In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a memory, a processor operatively coupled to the memory and a sensor. The sensor is configured to intercept a wireless signal associated with a vehicle. The processor configured to identify from the wireless signal (1) a bit rate of the wireless signal, (2) an encoding type associated with the wireless signal, and (3) data associated with the wireless signal. The processor configured to generate an identifier associated with the vehicle based on the bit rate, the encoding type and the data. The processor configured to correlate within the memory the identifier with additional data associated with a user of the vehicle.

Systems and methods for integrating cameras and phased array antennas for use in electronic toll charge

Systems and methods for integrating cameras and phased array antennas for use in electronic toll charge (ETC) are disclosed. In one aspect, an ETC system includes a camera including a lens and configured to capture an image indicative of a position of a vehicle and a plurality of antennas formed in a ring around the lens of the camera. The system further includes control circuitry configured to: determine the position of the vehicle based on the image captured by the camera, adjust the antennas for beamforming based on the position of the vehicle, and wirelessly communicate with an on board device (OBU) of the vehicle via the beamforming provided by the adjusted antennas.

Method and apparatus for dynamically changed identifiers in an RFID tag device

A method and apparatus for an RFID tag device that uses dynamic identifiers for transactions rather than a fixed identifier. An associated device communicates with the RFID tag device and obtains dynamic identifiers for transactions and provides the dynamic identifiers to the RFID tag device. The RFID tag device is protocol-agile and can be configured to operate using different protocols to complete transactions.

System and method for speech recognition for occupancy detection in high occupancy toll applications

A system and method for dividing toll charges among vehicle occupants includes, at a mobile device, receiving identifying information for each vehicle occupant that can be used to verify the identity of the occupant. The identifying information can be biometric in nature, including images or voice prints. The information is provided to tolling service with which each of the occupants has an account. Toll charges that accrue as the vehicle travels are then divided or split among the vehicle occupants.

Toll advertisement message road topologies

Smart tolling for vehicles is provided. A toll advertisement message (TAM) is received by a vehicle, broadcast from a road-side unit (RSU) via V2X communication, the TAM defining a plurality of toll road tariff data elements, each of the toll road tariff data elements specifying a set of tolling factors indexed by a unique toll context identifier. Roadway usage of the vehicle is determined. A charge for the roadway usage is determined according to the set of tolling factors of the TAM. A toll usage message (TUM) is sent via the V2X communication, the TUM indicating, to the RSU, the tariff for the roadway usage of the vehicle.

TOLL PAYMENT EQUIPMENT

Methods, computer-readable media, software, and apparatuses provide a system for making toll payments using toll payment equipment. The system may include a mobile computing device, a toll gateway, and an insurance company computing device. The mobile computing device (e.g., a phone) may be configured to communicate with the toll gateway when a vehicle carrying the mobile computing device passes through the toll gateway. The mobile computing may send a signal to the insurance company computing device to cause the insurance company computing device to pay an appropriate toll or discounted toll (if applicable). The insurance company may maintain an account for a customer from which toll payments are made. In addition, the insurance company computing device may collect information about the vehicle as it passes through the toll gateway. The insurance company computing device may use this information to determine an insurance-related value, such as an insurance premium.

COMBINING USER DEVICE IDENTITY WITH VEHICLE INFORMATION FOR TRAFFIC ZONE DETECTION

The described technology is generally directed towards combining user identity information, corresponding to user profile data, with vehicle information, such as for use by a traffic zone management system that charges a fee for vehicle usage in a traffic zone. A user device, such as a mobile communications device, can be coupled to vehicle information such as via a transponder that is detected by roadside units, or by uploading the combined information to a wireless communications system. Based on the combination of information, different billing rates or the like can be applied to different users and vehicle types. The technology can work with various communication systems, including roadside units and wireless communication networks.
