Images of items are evaluated. A first image of the item, having a view of two or more of its surfaces, is captured at a first time. A measurement of at least one dimension of one or more of the surfaces is computed and stored. A second image of the item, having a view of at least one of the two or more surfaces, is captured at a second time, subsequent to the first time. A measurement of the dimension is then computed and compared to the stored first measurement. The computed measurement is evaluated based on the comparison.

In an embodiment, disclosed is a method comprising determining, by a sensor component of a package analysis device comprising a processor that executes computer executable components stored in a memory and the memory that stores computer executable components, a presence of a package and a set of dimensions of the package and extracting, by an image capturing component of the package analysis device, a set of image data from a package label based on a determined presence of the package.

Systems and methods for processing distribution items having unique identifiers affixed thereon. The unique identifiers can include computer readable codes and written alphanumeric strings generated by a user. A system receives the unique identifier and requests payment information from a user, and stores an association between the unique identifier and the payment information, and processes the item according to the payment information.

A method of verifying the identity of a mail item, the method comprising obtaining a first visual representation of at least a portion of a mail item, determining a first postal identifier based on the first visual representation, obtaining a second visual representation of at least a portion of the mail item, determining a second postal identifier based on the second visual representation, comparing the second postal identifier with the first postal identifier, and enabling processing of the mail item based on the comparison step.

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for measuring package dimensions. The systems and methods may include determining, by a computing device comprising a processor, pixel locations of a plurality of corners of a package within an image. The systems and methods may also include determining, by the computing device, the package dimensions based on the pixel locations.

A package shipping processing system is provided including a kiosk housing, a computer terminal with a video display, an input device such as a touch screen and/or keyboard, a data processor, and network data communications module. The package shipping processing system further includes a scale with a platform on which objects for shipment are placed and weighed, and an imaging device in communication with the computer terminal to transmit captured image data of objects for shipment. The data processor stores a fragility index which lists objects and different insulations which correspond to the listed objects. In use, shippers input the identification of an object to be shipped into the input device, and place the object on the scale for weight and dimensional determinations. The data processor analyzes the object's weight, fragility and dimensions to select a package and insulation for shipment.
