Time synchronization

A method having the steps of obtaining temporal information communicated to a first device; carrying out one or more of the following tests: a test to determine whether the first device is in a state following an initial operation, a battery replacement or other power outage, or a reset, a test to determine whether a deviation between temporal information of the clock and the communicated temporal information is less than or equal to a threshold which is specified, and a test to determine whether the communicated temporal information has the same date as the temporal information of the clock; and synchronizing the clock using the communicated temporal information if all of one or more defined conditions are satisfied, wherein one of the one or more conditions requires that at least one of the one or more tests carried out has a positive result.

Automatic transitions in automation settings

Various aspects and embodiments of automation in tenancy transitions are described. Among other aspects or features of the embodiments, a computing device in an automation or gateway hub receives and stores automation settings from an automation management service environment over time. The automation settings can include different settings for various states of occupancy of a rental unit or dwelling. For example, the automation settings can include a first set of automation settings, which can be used while the dwelling is occupied, and a second set automation settings for use after the dwelling is no longer occupied. The automation or gateway hub can determine whether a transition has occurred for the dwelling and, in response to the transition, load the different automation settings into one or more home automation devices of the dwelling.

Method for monitoring access to electronically controllable devices

A method for monitoring access to an electronically controllable device includes establishing communication between a mobile device and a control platform via a communication network. A booking, including first and second data, is created for a controllable device in the platform. The first data is access information and the second data is encrypted with an individual key which is assigned to an access control unit in the controllable device. The mobile device is wirelessly connected to the access unit and the second data, as well as a subset of the first data, is transmitted to the access unit which decrypts the second data and checks its signature. If the check is successful, a configuration of the access unit is adapted as a function of the decrypted data. Authorization for access to the controllable device by the mobile device is checked as a function of the decrypted data.

Gateway-Based Anti-Theft Security System and Method

Improved systems and techniques are disclosed for controlling the security states of anti-theft security systems such as product display assemblies using security fobs. The tasks relating to fob authentication are offloaded to a computer system, and these authentications can be based on identifiers for the different security fobs. The interactions between security fobs and product display assemblies can be consistent regardless of the population of authorized security fobs by using a security code that is shared by the security fobs. When attempting to use a security fob to change a security status for a product display assembly, the provision of the code to the subject product display assembly can be predicated on authorization of the subject security fob by the computer system. The computer system can maintain a list of identifiers for authorized security fobs that is easily updated when new security fobs are added to or existing security fobs are de-authorized from the system.

A security device for an item of merchandise is provided. The security device includes a non-programmable locking mechanism comprising a mechanical lock and a programmable locking mechanism comprising a monitoring circuit operatively coupled to an alarm. The security device is configured to secure an item of merchandise from theft or removal when the mechanical lock is locked and to be separated from the item of merchandise when the mechanical lock is unlocked. The alarm is configured to provide an alarm signal if the security device is separated from the item of merchandise while the monitoring circuit is armed.

Smartphones based vehicle access

A symmetric key-based generation and distribution system and method for a vehicle access authentication framework is provided, the framework comprising: a first device operated by a car owner, a second device operated by a delegated user, and a third device residing in a vehicle. The first device is configured to: request for an authentication key from the third device, the request for the authentication key comprising an ID of the first device, id.sub.O; receive an authentication key K.sub.id.sub.O from the third device; and generate a delegated authentication key K.sub.id.sub.U based on authentication key K.sub.id.sub.O and an ID of the second device in response to receiving a request for delegated authentication key from the second device, the request for delegated authentication key comprising the ID of the second device.

License management using cloud based enrollment

Systems and methods are disclosed for registering a host computing device at a server and registering a lock device at the server via an application running on a mobile computing device, each being provided host keys from the server that allow communication between the host computing device the lock device. Further, the lock device can only be registered with the server if a current registered device count is less than a maximum registered device threshold.

Multifunctional access control device

An access control device that at least assists in controlling the ingress/egress through an entryway. According to certain embodiments, the access control device is operably coupled to an entryway device so as to at least assist in controlling the ability to displace an entryway device from a closed position and/or from an open position. The access control device is structured for communication with a plurality of components of a security management system, and thus may be programmed by one or more modes, including, for example a manual program mode, an off-line managed mode, a wireless off-line management mode, a wireless real-time mode, and/or an off-line real-time mode.
