A system evaluates currency in an area using image processing. In some examples, the system receives an image of an area from an image sensor, processes the image to identify at least one item of currency in the area, determine a value of the currency irrespective of validity, and counts the currency. In various examples, the system receives an image of an area from an image sensor; processes the image to identify at least one item of currency in the area; determines whether the currency has an error condition; and when the currency is determined to have the error condition, provides output on the error condition. In a number of examples, the system receives an image of an area from an image sensor; processes the image to identify at least one item of currency in the area; determines whether the currency is valid; and when the currency is determined to be suspect, provides output on the currency.

Image processing device, image processing method, and program

An image processing device combines an image of a medium exposed to visible light and an image of the medium exposed to ultraviolet light so that parts printed with UV ink can be easily identified. A control device (image processing device) has an image acquisition unit that drives an image sensor and acquires a first image by imaging the face of a check when exposed to a visible first light, and acquires a second image by imaging the face of the check when exposed to an ultraviolet second light; a reverse image generating unit that generates a reversed second image by reversing light and dark in the second image; and a second synthesizing unit that generates a second synthesized image by combining the first image and the reversed second image. Because the reversed second image that is the reverse of the second image becomes an image that is light overall, a drop in the luminance and a drop in the contrast of the first synthesized image can be suppressed, and parts printed with UV ink are easily discerned.

Method and system for detecting staining

A method for detecting staining on a media item, the method comprising: capturing (22) a digital image of the media item, the digital image comprising a plurality of pixels representing color information of the media item; comparing (30) the captured digital image to a reference image, wherein comparing the captured digital image to the reference image comprises: generating a histogram for each of a plurality of kernel patches of the captured digital image, wherein each of the plurality of kernel patches of the captured digital image covers an area of the captured digital image, such that the entire captured digital image is covered by the plurality of kernel patches; comparing (40) the histogram for each of the plurality of kernel patches of the captured digital image to a histogram of a corresponding kernel patch of the reference image to generate a distance metric; and based on the generated distance metrics, determining if staining is present on the media item.

METHOD OF ENROLLING DATA TO CONTROL AN IDENTITY, AND IDENTITY-CONTROL METHOD

The present invention comprises an enrolment method comprising steps of: acquisition (100) of an image showing a photograph itself showing an individual, extraction (102), from the image of a characteristic of the image other than a biometric model, obtaining (104) personal data of the individual other than by the image-processing algorithm, generation (106) of a reference datum (W) from the characteristic of the image and the obtained personal data, calculation (108) of an encoded datum (s) by application of an encoding procedure to the reference datum (W) and to a random datum (c), calculation (110) of a hash (h(c) of the random datum, storage (112) in a database of the datum encoded (s) in association with the hash. The invention also comprises an identity-control method using such stored data.

DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR OPTICAL VALIDATION

Existing currency validation (CVAL) devices, systems, and methods are too slow, costly, intrusive, and/or bulky to be routinely used in common transaction locations (e.g., at checkout, at an automatic teller machine, etc.). Presented herein are devices, systems, and methods to facilitate optical validation of documents, merchandise, or currency at common transaction locations and to do so in an obtrusive and convenient way. More specifically, the present invention embraces a validation device that may be used alone or integrated within a larger system (e.g., point of sale system, kiosk, etc.). The present invention also embraces methods for currency validation using the validation device, as well as methods for improving the quality and consistency of data captured by the validation device for validation.

Method for securing and verifying a document

The invention relates to a method for securing a document including a visual element, carried out by a processing unit comprising processing means, the method comprising generation, from the visual element, of a reference security datum, and storage of the reference security datum, wherein the reference security datum is generated by means of an algorithm configured so as to generate: for any image acquired from the visual element, a security datum whereof the differences relative to the reference security datum are less than a determined threshold, and for any image acquired on a different visual element, a security datum whereof the differences relative to the reference security datum are greater than said threshold.

Method, system and computer program for comparing images

A method of verifying, by a processing system, whether a user of a device corresponds to a previously authenticated user. The processing system has access to a first image and a second image. The first image is an image of an identity document comprising an image of the previously authenticated user. The second image is an image captured by the device.
