POINT OF SALE DEVICE POWER MANAGEMENT AND UNDERVOLTAGE PROTECTION
20230124224 · 2023-04-20 ·

A point-of-sale (POS) device includes a processor, a battery, a transaction object reader, a printer with a printer controller, and optionally a temperature sensor. The processor determines a present power discharge capability rate of the battery, optionally based on a temperature measured by the temperature sensor. The processor also calculates a first estimated power draw rate based on a first setting value for at least one of the components of the POS device, such as the printer. If the first estimated power draw rate is dangerously close to the present power discharge capability rate of the battery, a second estimated power draw rate is calculated based on a second setting value for the one or more components. If the second estimated power draw rate is no longer dangerously close to the present power discharge capability rate of the battery, the components are set to the second settings value.

Remotely Upgradable Automated Banking Machine

In an example embodiment, there is disclosed herein a technique that allows the capabilities of an automated banking machine, such as an ATM, to be upgraded remotely. For example, the banking machine may be sold or leased with an initial configuration. It the customer desires to add additional features, the customer can pay for the features and the manufacturer or dealer can send a signal from a remote host to the automated banking machine with data representative of the upgrade. The banking machine then operates with the upgraded configuration.

OBSTRUCTION DETECTION OF A TRANSACTION DEVICE DISPLAY SCREEN

In some implementations, a transaction device may include a display screen, at least one photosensitive sensor configured to detect a luminance of a viewing surface of the display screen, and one or more processors. The one or more processors may be configured to monitor an output of the at least one photosensitive sensor, determine that the output is indicative of an obstruction on the display screen based on the output indicating a change to the luminance of the viewing surface of the display screen, and disable one or more operations of the transaction device based on determining that the output is indicative of the obstruction on the display screen.

PAYMENT ACCEPTOR WITH A MULTIFUNCTION IMAGING SENSOR

A payment acceptor (500) includes an inlet, a payment media transport path to transport payment media such as a banknote or a coin from the inlet to an interior of the payment acceptor, and an imaging sensor (501) to capture an image of an object inserted in the payment media transport path. The imaging sensor is configured to capture an image of a user (504) attempting to insert an object (505) into the inlet. At least one processor (3902) is configured to receive one or more images of the media captured by the imaging sensor via at least one of the one or more fiber optic sensors (1121, 1122), analyze at least one of the one or more images to determine at least one media characteristic of the media, store the at least one media characteristic in the memory (3904), and cause the payment acceptor to perform an action based on the at least one media characteristic.

Automated exception handling for automatic teller machines

An ATM exception handler automatically handles certain forms of exceptions. The exception handler receives messages indicating amounts of cash counted and amounts of cash shown at different ATMs. If exceptions are indicated by these messages, the exception handler attempts to reconcile exceptions with each other depending on several factors, such as, the servicer of the ATMs and day of servicing.

Dynamic automatic teller machine (ATM) refilling and pre-staging ATM transactions

Aspects of the disclosure relate to an automatic teller machine (ATM) network. A computing device may monitor operations in the ATM network. The computing device may determine an ATM refill route for a cash truck based on the monitoring the ATM network and/or based on refill notifications sent by an ATM. An ATM may communicate with a second ATM to pre-stage a user transaction at the second ATM.

SYSTEM, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR REAL-TIME AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINE FRAUD DETECTION AND PREVENTION

Described are a system, method, and computer program product for real-time automated teller machine (ATM) fraud detection and prevention. The method includes receiving transaction data of a plurality of transactions in real-time during processing at a transaction service provider system. The method further includes storing the transaction data in a distributed cache and receiving a transaction request for a user transaction at an ATM using a payment device. The method further includes modifying a profile of ATM activity stored in the distributed cache and comparing at least one metric of the profile to at least one predetermined ATM activity threshold. The method further includes activating a fraud prevention operation before the user transaction is completed at the ATM, including declining the user transaction, disabling a transaction account, communicating an alert to an issuer, or any combination thereof.

Systems and methods for detecting compromised ATMs

Examples described herein relate to apparatuses and methods of providing automated teller machine (ATM) status notifications. A method includes detecting a signal near an ATM, determining that the signal is indicative of the ATM being comprised, calculating a compromise score based at least on the determination that the signal is indicative of the ATM being compromised, and displaying an image on a user interface of the user device in a manner that reflects the compromise score.

MEDIUM STORAGE BOX, FINANCIAL DEVICE, AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

A medium storage box according to an embodiment includes: a cassette body having a storage space in which a medium is stored; a cassette door coupled to the cassette body to open or close the storage space; a door opening detection unit for generating an open detection signal when the cassette door is opened; a microcomputer for determining that the cassette door is opened when receiving the open detection signal, and for storing the determined opening information of the cassette door in a cassette memory; and a battery for supplying power to the door detection unit and the microcomputer, wherein when the open detection signal is generated in the door opening detection unit, the battery supplies power to the microcomputer.

Systems and methods for cash-till optimization

The operation of one or more cash handling devices may be remotely modified by updating locally stored cash dispensing data at each of the one or more cash handling devices based at least in part on optimization data generated at a monitoring server. Operational data is received from the one or more cash handling devices and utilized to generate historical data within a historical database. Optimization parameters are received for each of one or more cash handling devices, and the optimization parameters are utilized together with the generated historical data to generate optimization data utilizing one or more optimization models. The optimization data is transmitted to applicable cash handling devices to cause the cash handling device to update locally stored executing instructions causing operation of the cash handling device to dispense cash into one or more register tills.
