System and method for widget-assisted setup of a universal remote control

A system and method for enabling set up of a controlling device capable of controlling a plurality of appliances provides an interactive instruction set and associated programming which is downloadable to a controllable appliance having an associated display, such as an Internet enabled television. The programming is accessible by the controllable appliance and is configured to appropriately display interactive instructions from the interactive instruction set to a user during a user initiated set up procedure for setting up the controlling device to communicate commands to another controllable device (e.g., a DVD, VCR, DVR, etc).

Dynamic linking of codesets in universal remote control devices

A codeset having function-code combinations is provisioned on a controlling device to control functions of an intended target device. Input is provided to the controlling device which designates a function to be controlled on the intended target device. From a plurality of codes that are each associated with the designated function in a database stored in a memory of the controlling device a first code that is determined to be valid for use in controlling the designated function on the intended target device is selected. When the codeset is then provisioned on the controlling device, the provisioned codeset includes as a function-code combination thereof the designated function and the first code.

REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE

A remote control device includes: a housing; a central processor arranged in the housing and configured to control operations of the remote control device; a thermoelectric generator arranged in the housing and coupled to the central processor; a button module arranged in the housing and coupled to the central processor and the thermoelectric generator; and a communication module coupled to the central processor and the thermoelectric generator, wherein: the thermoelectric generator includes an electricity generator having two metal sheets made of different materials, the two metal sheets being connected to each other at two connection points and forming a closed loop circuit via the two connection points, and the electricity generator is configured to generate a thermoelectromotive force based on a temperature difference between the two connection points, and power the central processor, the button module, and the communication module using the thermoelectromotive force.

REMOTE CONTROL WITH MICROPHONE USED FOR PAIRING THE REMOTE CONTROL TO A SYSTEM AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME

According to the principles as disclosed herein, a remote control contains a microphone. The microphone inside the remote control picks up the audio content of all surrounding sound in the room in which is it located. Specifically, if a program is being presented for viewing and listening on a particular A/V system, a remote control with a microphone will hear the program which is being presented at the same time that the system is sending the signal to its own speakers. The A/V system then receives a signal from the remote control providing the audio signal that that remote control has received. If the audio signal which the remote control has received matches the audio signal which the A/V system output to its speakers to broadcast into the room, then the A/V system will switch to be able to receive input from that particular remote control.

A codeset is described in a Public Codeset Communication Format (PCCF) as a format block including a plurality of fields having readily decipherable values, such as ASCII character values. One field is a mark/space information field that includes a sequence of mark time indicators and space time indicators for an operational signal of the codeset. A second field is a signal characteristic information field for the operational signal. Signal characteristic information may include carrier on/off information, repeat frame information, toggle control information, and last frame information. The PCCF is a codeset interchange format of general applicability.

Electric device, remote control signal determining program and remote control signal processing method

When a received remote control signal does not satisfy any one of a plurality of conditions for a qualified remote control signal stored in a signal condition storage part, an electric device determines that the remote control signal is not a qualified remote control signal, and when the received remote control signal satisfies any one of the conditions, stores the remote control signal as a qualified remote control signal in a signal storage part. Next, when the received remote control signal matches the qualified remote control signal stored in the signal storage part, control is performed such that the electric device performs a predetermined operation. The conditions for the qualified remote control signal include, for example, that a pulse count is within a range of a predetermined number, and that a pulse width is within a range of a predetermined length.
