Traffic light estimation

Among other things, we describe techniques for traffic light estimation using range sensors. A planning circuit of a vehicle traveling on a first drivable region that forms an intersection with a second drivable region receives information sensed by a range sensor of the vehicle. The information represents a movement state of an object through the intersection. A traffic signal at the intersection controls movement of objects through the intersection. The planning circuit determines a state of the traffic signal at the intersection based, in part, on the received information. A control circuit controls an operation of the vehicle based, in part, on the state of the traffic signal at the intersection.

Roadway Safety System
20210020040 · 2021-01-21 ·

A safety system to prevent a wrong-way vehicle from entering a roadway by driving onto an exit ramp in the wrong direction. A detection system monitors and detects the wrong-way vehicle as soon as it enters the exit ramp in the wrong direction. Upon detecting a wrong-way vehicle, the roadway safety system remotely sends a signal to turn off the motor of the wrong-way vehicle. The system may also record the vehicle's identification and communicate it to a command center to determine the mobile phone number of the owner/driver and call the driver to alert them that they are driving the wrong-way. Alternatively, a series of one or more penetrable and/or impenetrable barriers could be deployed to stop the wrong-way vehicle. The safety system may further include a communications system to communicate to a central office to initiate other alarms and control traffic on the roadway in response to detecting a wrong-way vehicle.

Traffic metering system

CONNECTED AUTOMATED VEHICLE HIGHWAY SYSTEMS AND METHODS RELATED TO TRANSIT VEHICLES AND SYSTEMS

The technology provides designs and methods for the transit management system, which facilitates transit vehicle operations and control for connected automated transit vehicles (CATVs) systems. The transit management system provides transit vehicles with customized/non-customized information and time-sensitive control instructions for transit vehicle to fulfill the driving tasks such as vehicle routing, lane changing, turning. The transit management system also realizes transit vehicle lane design, transportation operations and management services for transit vehicle. The transit management system consists of one of more of the following physical subsystems: (1) Roadside Unit (RSU) network, (2) Traffic Control Unit (TCU) and Traffic Control Center (TCC) network, (3) Vehicle Onboard Unit (OBU), (4) Traffic Operations Centers (TOCs), (5) Cloud platform. The transit management system realizes one or more of the following function categories: sensing, transportation behavior prediction and management, planning and decision making, and vehicle control. The transit management system is supported by road infrastructure, real-time wired and/or wireless communication, the power supply networks, and cyber safety and security services.

INTELLIGENT RAILROAD AT-GRADE CROSSINGS
20240132126 · 2024-04-25 ·

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for monitoring vehicles traversing a dedicated roadway that includes an at-grade crossing. In some implementations, a system includes a central server, a gate system, and sensors. The gate system provides access to an at-grade crossing for vehicles. The sensors are positioned in a fixed location relative to a roadway, the roadway including the at-grade crossing. Each sensor can detect vehicles on the roadway. For each vehicle, each sensor can generate sensor data and observational data from the generated sensor data. Each sensor can determine a likelihood that the detected vehicle will approach the at-grade crossing by comparing the likelihood to a threshold. In response, each sensor can transmit data to the gate system that causes the gate system to allow the autonomous vehicle access to the at-grade crossing prior to the autonomous vehicle reaching the gate system.
