Efficient label insertion and collision handling

Techniques are described for efficient label insertion and collision handling. A bounding geometry for a label to be graphically displayed on a display screen as part of an electronic map is determined, wherein the bounding geometry comprises a circle. The bounding geometry is inserted into a grid index, wherein the grid index represents a viewport of the electronic map. Disjoint regions of the grid index intersected by the bounding geometry are identified, wherein each disjoint region represents a different portion of the viewport. For each intersected disjoint region, it is identified whether there is at least one collision between the bounding geometry and one or more existing bounding geometries in the disjoint region; and responsive to identifying whether there is at least one collision in the intersected disjoint region, a target opacity of the label is set.

One or more cost functions from the point of interest to the plurality of the peripheral points of interest on the map are analyzed. A plurality of vectors emanating from the point of interest to the plurality of the peripheral points of interest on a different representation of the map are displayed. Another method is provided for identifying points of interest on a map. Regions of high interest are identified on the map. Regions of low interest are identified on the map. The regions of high interest are expanded on a different representation of the map. The regions of low interest are contracted by an amount proportional to an amount the regions of high interest are expanded on the different representation of the map.

Embodiments of the present invention are drawn computer systems and methods for rendering a spherical projection as a cube map that mitigates non-uniform pixel density near the edges of the cube map to avoid artifacts and increase rendering performance.

In particular implementations, the interface can be configured to come into view over the imagery whenever a user navigates to a particular view of the imagery where a plurality of canonical views is available. The motion of the navigation control interface appearing into the imagery is intended to draw attention to the control interface to inform the user that additional canonical views are available.

A method and an apparatus for correcting deformation of a digital map for a vehicle, includes loading a related part from the digital map; determining whether the related part includes road coordinate information in a first zone and road coordinate information in a second zone, wherein the road coordinate information in the first zone is associated with a first Cartesian coordinate system and the road coordinate information in the second zone is associated with a second Cartesian coordinate system; transforming the road coordinate information in the second zone to the first Cartesian coordinate system, if the related part includes the road coordinate information in the first zone and the road coordinate information in the second zone; and generating a corrected map by combining the road coordinate information in the first zone and the transformed road coordinate information in the second zone; wherein the first Cartesian coordinate system is the coordinate system of the vehicle for processing the road coordinate information.

For each of the composite cluster hash values, comparing a composite cluster hash value of a particular cluster in the first dataset with a composite cluster hash value of a corresponding cluster in the second dataset. When the composite cluster hash values of the corresponding clusters do not match, retrieving all tile hashes corresponding to all the tiles from the non-matching cluster in the first dataset, and retrieving all tile hashes corresponding to all the tiles from the non-matching cluster in the second dataset. Finally, determining the one or more changed tiles between the non-matching cluster in the first dataset and the non-matching cluster in the second dataset by comparing the corresponding tile hashes.
