A necktie with integrated, individually addressable, multi-colored light emitting diode (LED) modules arranged in a rectangular matrix format. These LED modules are connected together and controlled by means of an onboard microcontroller. Functionality is included in order to facilitate the installation of custom light patterns by the user after manufacture. The device includes an onboard wireless communication module in order to facilitate communication with an external control interface, such as an application on a smartphone, so the light patterns displayed by the LEDs may be modified based on user input.

A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device that includes a supporting member having an outer edge and an exposed surface having a shape defined by the outer edge. The supporting member is attachable to a personal sports equipment item. The device further includes a message attached to the supporting member and an attachment feature positioned at a location on the supporting member. One of the attachment feature, the location, the shape or a combination thereof is based on a configuration of the personal sporting goods item. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A pinned plate assembly having a plate assembly made of a flexible and bendable semi rigid material that maintains its shape once configured. The plate assembly has an exterior face, an interior face, first and second edges, and first and second lateral edges. The plate assembly further has first and second channels, each having at least one hole. Securing means secure the plate assembly onto headgear. In a preferred embodiment, the plate assembly has a substantially rectangular shape. The exterior face displays desired text, and/or letters, and/or symbols, and/or words, and/or logo designs, and/or artwork, and/or graphics. The first and second channels each have an exterior channel defined at the exterior face and an interior channel defined at the interior face. The at least one hole extends from the exterior channel to the interior channel.

Flexible LED light arrays particularly suitable for use in clothing and other articles are disclosed. The light arrays are disposed on flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs). The flexible PCBs include substantially sinusoidal metal contact traces, along which the LEDs are attached at an angle preselected to minimize stresses in the expected directions of bending. The flexible PCBs may have control electronics provided on separate, attachable control boards, which may be either flexible or rigid. LEDs are incorporated into a garment to which a controller is attached to control the LEDs, and a battery may be attached to power the electronic components. The garment can be programmed with different patterns that can provide information to the wearer or to others, and can connect with a device, such as a cellular telephone, smartwatch, or activity band, that the wearer can use to control the lights embedded in the garment.
