In one embodiment, a computing system may receive a target image with a first number of bits per color. The system may access masks that each includes dots associated with a grayscale range. A subset of the dots associated with each of the masks may be associated with a subrange of the grayscale range. The dots within the subsets of dots associated with the masks may have different positions. The system may generate a number of images based on the target image and the masks. Each of the images may have a second number of bits per color smaller than the first number of bits per color. The system may display the images sequentially on a display for representing the target image.

Asymmetric pixel operation for compensating lens optics limitations

An artificial-reality device has a display with a plurality of pixels. In a calibration mode, the device determines gray-level values for the pixels using a uniform test image. Each pixel has a luminance level proportional to its gray-level value. The device groups the pixels into segments according to the luminance levels. For each of the segments, the device computes an overall luminance level and a luminance target according to the determined gray-level values. When the overall luminance level is below the luminance target for the segment, the device calculates calibration data, which either (i) increases the gray-level of each pixel in the segment by a specified amount or (ii) selects a gamma band for the segment corresponding to a difference between the luminance target and the overall luminance level. The device stores the calibration data. The device is configured to use the stored calibration data in subsequent display of images.

Method and apparatus for displaying interface image

A method of displaying an interface image includes: acquiring a currently displayed interface image, and determining a grayscale of each pixel point of the interface image; in the grayscales of all the pixel points, determining the number of each grayscale; acquiring N grayscales, the numbers of the N grayscales being the first N largest numbers, where N is a preset positive integer; when each difference between the N grayscales exceeds a first preset value, and a ratio of a sum of the numbers of the N grayscales to a sum of the numbers of all the grayscales exceeds a second preset value, determining a brightness adjustment parameter corresponding to the interface image; and reducing a current backlight brightness based on the brightness adjustment parameter.

Object oriented image normalization

A method and system for reducing the number of colors per pixel present in an image to increase the ability to detect objects or anomalies in the image. A final number of colors per pixel to reduce the image to is determined, wherein the final number of colors is a number of colors less than the number of colors per pixel in the original image. A corresponding threshold value for each of the final number of colors is identified, such that the corresponding threshold values optimize an arithmetic combination of separation score functions applied to the plurality of pixels and the threshold values. The image is reduced to the final number of colors per pixel, by creating an output image where a value of each output pixel is equal to the number of threshold values that are less than the value of the corresponding input pixel.
