A display apparatus switches to any one of a plurality of modes, generates a partial image, and controls a luminance of a black region. The plurality of modes includes a first mode capable of displaying an image of a first dynamic range on a display unit and a second mode capable of displaying an image of a second dynamic range wider than the first dynamic range on a display unit. The partial image includes at least a black region and is superimposed on an image displayed on the display unit. Controlling includes controlling a luminance of the black region of the partial image in the second mode to be less than a luminance of the black region of the partial image in the first mode.

MicroLED display

A display, system and method of providing a display are described. The display includes sets of microLEDs. Each set of microLEDs corresponds to one of a plurality of pixels of the display and produces a combination of light that forms a color of the corresponding one of the pixels. Lenses control an emission angle and emission profile of the light emitted by the sets of microLEDs. Each set of microLEDs has a red microLED that emits red light, a green microLED that emits green light, a blue microLED that emits blue light, and another microLED that emits light along a red-green locus. The red-green locus light is selected to enhance efficiency at a white point to compensate for reduced emission from the red microLED dependent on a size of the red microLED.

IMAGE GENERATION APPARATUS AND IMAGE GENERATION METHOD

An image generation apparatus generates an image whose background region on which a virtual object appearing in the real space is not superimposed is drawn in a background color having a predetermined luminance so as to make a region of a shadow of the virtual object look relatively dark. A rendering section renders the shadow of the virtual object appearing in a mesh structure in the real space by rendering not only the virtual object but also the mesh structure in the real space. A pixel value conversion section heightens colors of all pixels such that the background region uniformly takes on a background color having a predetermined luminance. A shadow/background processing section identifies the region of the shadow of the virtual object, sets the background region other than the shadow to the background color, and sets the shadow region to a color whose luminance is equal to or lower than that of the background color.
