Interactive instruments and other striking objects
09799315 · 2017-10-24 · ·

Systems, methods, and devices for providing interactive striking objects (e.g., drumsticks) and performing actions in response to striking motions of the striking objects are disclosed. In some embodiments, the systems and methods provide an interactive drumstick, which includes a lighting display located at a tip portion of the interactive drumstick, a motion detector contained at least partially within the drumstick, a processor and memory contained at least partially within the drumstick, and an interactive system stored within the memory of the drumstick. The interactive system includes a striking motion module that determines striking motions of the drumstick with respect to a virtual percussion instrument based on accessing information measured by the motion detector, and a display module that causes the lighting display to present a certain type of illumination based on the striking motions determined by the striking motion module.

MIDI MALLET FOR TOUCH SCREEN DEVICES

For music production, the velocity values with the purpose of creating dynamic percussion in cooperation with a value measuring surface (a touch screen tablet or touch screen phone) has the ability to simulate the tension of a percussion instrument thus tone values are correlated with X, Y values from a measuring surface and dynamics values are measured with velocity, all inclusive, wireless and cooperative with MIDI software.

DRUMSTICK CONTROLLER

A percussion device includes a drumstick assembly and a sleeve. The drumstick assembly includes a drumstick having a base and a tip end, and a drumstick tip secured to the tip end of the drumstick, the drumstick tip including a sensor. The sleeve is disposed about at least a portion of the drumstick including the base thereof, and includes at least one control button, a communication element, and a processor in communication with the at least one control button, the drumstick tip and the communication element. The processor is configured to receive a signal from the drumstick tip and to generate output to the communication element. The output so generated includes a signal that specifies a sound file selected by operation of the at least one control button.

A method of generating audio synthesizer control signals, the method comprising: receiving at a processing component, from a multi-dimensional orientation sensor of a controller device, inputs denoting sensed changes in orientation of the control device in first and second angular dimensions; processing the inputs to generate audio synthesizer control signals; and outputting the audio synthesizer control signals to an audio synthesizer; wherein the audio synthesizer control signals cause a first audible characteristic of the audio signal to be varied responsive to changes in orientation in the first angular dimension, and a second audible characteristic of the audio signal to be varied responsive to changes in orientation of the control device in the second angular dimension.

REMOTE TEACHING OF A PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT
20250232688 · 2025-07-17 ·

A method, computer program product, and computer system are provided for remote teaching of a percussion instrument. The method includes recording reference movement data from a reference drumstick over a period of time, analyzing the reference movement data to generate teaching instructions for movement of a learner drumstick to emulate the reference movement data, and transmitting the teaching instructions to provide teaching instruction indications at the learner drumstick over a period of time. The method further includes receiving learning movement data from the learner drumstick in response to the teaching instruction indications, altering the timing of the teaching instruction indications based on a difference between learning movement data and reference movement data at a given point of time in the period of time of the reference movement data to compensate for differences between the learner movement data of the learner drumsticks and the reference data of the reference provider drumsticks.
