An engine harmonic cancellation system includes an accelerometer disposed within a vehicle to detect a harmonic produced by an engine of the vehicle and to produce a harmonic reference signal representative of the harmonic; a controller configured to produce a harmonic cancellation signal that, when transduced into an acoustic signal, cancels the harmonic within at least one cancellation zone within a cabin of the vehicle, wherein the harmonic cancellation signal is based, at least in part, on mixing the harmonic reference signal converted to baseband with a baseband signal output from a look up table; and a speaker disposed within the cabin and configured to receive the harmonic cancellation signal and to transduce the harmonic cancellation signal into an acoustic harmonic cancellation signal, such that the harmonic is cancelled within the cancellation zone.

Hybrid active noise control system

An apparatus for canceling noise at an ear speaker includes a wideband active noise cancellation filter having a first bandwidth and configured to generate a wideband anti-noise signal from a received reference noise signal, a narrowband active noise cancellation filter having a second bandwidth smaller than the first bandwidth and configured to generate a narrowband anti-noise signal from an error noise signal, a filter between the ear speaker and an error microphone and configured to generate a feedback noise signal, and a controller. The controller is configured to eliminate the error noise signal by modifying coefficients of the wideband active noise cancellation filter and the narrowband active noise cancellation filter in response to the wideband anti-noise signal, the narrowband anti-noise signal, and the feedback noise signal.

AN ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION SYSTEM FOR HELMETS

A helmet including an active noise cancellation (ANC) system which includes a first reference microphone for measuring sound pressure at a first location on a first side of the helmet, the first location between a defined spatial region and a first source of sound and a second reference microphone for measuring sound pressure at a second location, different to the first location, on the first side. The second location is between the defined spatial region and a second source of sound. A loud speaker is provided in or adjacent to the defined spatial region. A control unit determines, based on output signals from the first and second microphones, a drive signal for driving the loudspeaker to generate a sound signal that at least partially attenuates, in the defined spatial region and in the first frequency range, the sound signals from the first and second noise sources.

In an embodiment a system can include a sound cancellation device include a sensing element to detect vibration of a transparent pane and/or a sound input device configured to detect sound incident on the transparent pane, as well as a vibration generator configured to vibrate the transparent pane and a sound cancellation control module. The sound cancellation control module can evaluate the detected vibration of the transparent pane at two or more discrete frequency bands. The sound cancellation control module can cause the vibration generator to vibrate the transparent pane causing destructive interference with sound waves at the two or more discrete frequency bands. Noise Cancellation Using Segmented, Frequency-Dependent Phase Cancellation

Noise abatement within a signal stream containing unwanted signal referred to as noise is performed by acquiring a digitized noise signal and using a digital processor circuit to subdivide the acquired noise signal into different frequency band segments and thereby generate a plurality of segmented noise signals. Then individually for each segmented noise signal, the processor shifts in time the segmented noise signal by an amount dependent on a selected frequency of the segmented noise signal to produce a plurality of shifted segmented noise signals. The precise time shift applied to each noise segment considers the frequency content of the segment and the system processing time. Individually for each segmented noise signal, amplitude scaling is applied. The shifted and amplitude-scaled segmented noise signals are then combined to form a composite anti-noise signal which is output into the signal stream to abate the noise through destructive interference.

A noise cancellation system for a vehicle audio system may include at least one input sensor arranged on an engine of a vehicle configured to provide an input signal indicative of acceleration or vibration detected at the engine and a processor. The processor may be programmed to receive a reference signal, apply at least one order tracking to reference signal, generate an error signal based on an output signal, and apply at least one other order tracking filter to the error signal to provide engine order cancelation of the input signal.

An active noise control unit generates a noise canceling sound of a single frequency that cancels engine sound heard by an occupant and outputs the noise canceling sound to a speaker through an amplifier. A second harmonic detector and a third harmonic detector detect a magnitude of a harmonic component of the noise canceling sound included in sound collected by a microphone. A controller controls a frequency of the noise canceling sound generated by the active noise control unit to a fundamental frequency of the engine sound based on a rotation frequency of the engine, and in addition, causes an output level control unit to control a level of the noise canceling sound to be output to the amplifier so that the level of the noise canceling sound becomes higher when the magnitude of the harmonic component exceeds a predetermined threshold value.

Controlling ambient sound volume

An earpiece includes a feed-forward microphone coupled to the environment outside the headphones, a feedback microphone coupled to an ear canal of a user when the earpiece is in use, a speaker coupled to the ear canal of the user when the earpiece is in use, a digital signal processor implementing feed-forward and feedback noise compensation filters between the respective microphones and the speaker, and a memory storing an ordered sequence of sets of filters for use by the digital signal processor. Each of the sets of filters includes a feed-forward filter that provides a different frequency-dependent amount of sound pass-through or cancellation, which in combination with residual ambient sound reaching the ear results in a total insertion gain at the ear of a user.
