Pulse-Based Writing for Magnetic Storage Media
The present disclosure describes aspects of pulse-based writing for magnetic storage media. In some aspects, a pulse-based writer of magnetic storage media determines that a string of data bits having a same polarity corresponds to a magnet longer than a threshold associated with a magnetic media writer. The pulse-based writer inserts, into the string of data bits, a transition to a polarity opposite to the same polarity of the string of data bits. The string of data bits including the inserted transition is then transmitted to the magnetic media writer to cause a write head of the writer to pulse while writing the magnet to magnetic storage media. Various aspects may also implement a control signal to mask a transition or control polarity of the magnetic media writer. By so doing, magnets may be written to the magnetic storage media more efficiently or with less distortion to neighboring tracks.
Cancelling adjacent track interference
An apparatus may comprise a circuit configured to receive first underlying data corresponding to a first signal and receive a second signal corresponding to second underlying data. The circuit may determine an interference component signal based on the first underlying data corresponding to the first signal and a first channel pulse response shape for the first signal, determine estimated decisions corresponding to the second signal based on the second signal, and determine an estimated signal based on the estimated decisions corresponding to the second signal and a second channel pulse response shape for the second signal. The circuit may then generate a remaining signal based on the estimated signal and the second signal, generate an error signal based on the interference component signal and the remaining signal, and adapt one or more parameters of the first channel pulse response shape based on the error signal.
Magnetic recording device capable of adjusting high frequency patterns of first and second polarities
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device including a disk, a head configured to write write data to the disk, and a controller configured to write first data including a high-frequency pattern, detect, from a reproduced waveform obtained by reading the written first data, a difference between a first percentage by which high-frequency patterns of a first polarity are lost and a second percentage by which high-frequency patterns of a second polarity obtained by reversing the first polarity are lost, and adjust a high-frequency pattern of the first polarity of the write data or a high-frequency pattern of the second polarity of the write data on the basis of the difference.
Optical magnetic recording system, writer, media, and method
Described are optical magnetic recording systems, writers, media, and methods that utilize pulses of electromagnetic radiation to deterministically record information on magnetic storage media unaided by any additionally applied magnetic field such as from a write pole. The recording pulses may be linearly (or longitudinally) polarized pulses or circularly polarized pulses. The pulses may be modulated in accordance with data bits to be written on the media. Modulation may include modulating the polarization state(s) of the pulses and/or modulating the amplitude(s) the pulses, depending on the particular construction or configuration of the magnetic storage media to be used. Described are recording systems and methods that include laser light pulse generation, light pulse modulation, light pulse delivery, and magnetic media constructions.
