DISK DEVICE
According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a magnetic disk, a load beam, a flexure, a head unit, and a first restrictor. The load beam has a first face facing the magnetic disk. The flexure is attached to the first face. The head unit includes: a magnetic head attached to the flexure, configured to read and write information from and to the magnetic disk; and a heat-assister attached to the magnetic head, configured to heat the magnetic disk. The first restrictor is included in the head unit, configured to come in contact with at least one of the load beam and the flexure along with movement of the magnetic head away from the first face by a first distance.
CONNECTING DEVICE AND DISK DEVICE
A connecting device includes a first flexible printed circuit including a bonding end in which a plurality of connecting pads are provided, a first base portion, a junction portion extending between the bonding end and the first base portion, and a plurality of traces extending from the first base portion to the bonding end, a first connector that is mounted on the first base portion, a second flexible printed circuit including a bonding end in which a plurality of connecting pads are provided, a second base portion, a junction portion extending between the bonding end and the second base portion, and a plurality of traces extending from the second base portion to the bonding end, and a second connector that is mounted on the second base portion. The first connector and the second connector are disposed side by side in a same plane.

The first connector and the second connector are disposed side by side in a same plane.
Writer with Narrower High Moment Trailing Shield
A PMR (perpendicular magnetic recording) write head configured for microwave assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) in the form of spin assisted writing (SAW) or spin torque oscillation (STO) includes a spin-torque oscillator (STO) or SAW device and trailing shield formed of high moment magnetic material (HMTS). By patterning the STO or SAW and the HMTS in a simultaneous process the HMTS and the STO or SAW layers are precisely aligned and have very similar cross-track widths. In addition, the write gap at an off-center location has a thickness that is independent from its center-track thickness and the write gap total width can have a flexible range whose minimum value is the same width as the STO or SAW width.
Multichannel tape head module having thermally settable transducer pitch and method of setting pitch thereof
In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a module having a substrate and a closure, an array of transducers in a thin film structure on the substrate, the array being positioned along a tape bearing surface of the module, and a heating element positioned in the thin film structure and recessed from the tape bearing surface, and a controller electrically coupled to the heating element. The controller is configured to apply a current pulse of size, shape and duration sufficient to induce a permanent expansion of the array of transducers.
Multichannel tape head module having thermally settable transducer pitch and method of setting pitch thereof
In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a module having a substrate and a closure, an array of transducers in a thin film structure on the substrate, the array being positioned along a tape bearing surface of the module, and a heating element positioned in the thin film structure and recessed from the tape bearing surface, and a controller electrically coupled to the heating element. The controller is configured to apply a current pulse of size, shape and duration sufficient to induce a permanent expansion of the array of transducers.
