Storage systems implementing offset erasure code stripes

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: selecting strips from each storage unit for a given erasure code stripe such that the given erasure code stripe includes at most one strip from a high failure rate region of the respective storage unit, where each of the storage units include high and low failure rate regions. The selected strips are organized such that a number of each strip in the given erasure code stripe is offset from the remaining strips by an amount that is greater than a total number of strips in the high failure rate regions. The organized selected strips are further mapped to form the given erasure code stripe such that the high failure rate regions on each storage unit are mapped to one or more sequentially numbered strips, and the low failure rate regions are mapped to additional sequentially numbered strips.

Embodiments of chair systems incorporating trekking poles include a low-back design employing fixed-length trekking poles, and a high-back design employing adjustable-length trekking poles that allow for adjusting the recline angle of the chair. The chair system generally includes a tubular frame that releasably engages a flexible seat. The tubular frame includes a front hub and a rear hub spaced one from the other by a cross bar, plus front and rear footings which stabilize the chair system on the ground or undersurface. A V-shaped upper support extending from the front hub supports and holds open the leg portion of the flexible seat, while the trekking poles are releasably engaged with and extend upwardly from the rear hub to support, and hold open and upright the back portion of the flexible seat.

On head microelectronics for write synchronization

The presently disclosed technology teaches integrating disc drive electronics into a transducer head. Decreased electrical transit times and data processing times can be achieved by placing the electronics on or within the transducer head because electrical connections may be made physically shorter than in conventional systems. The electronics may include one or more of a control system circuit, a write driver, and/or a data buffer. The control system circuit generates a modified clock signal that has a fixed relation to phase and frequency of a bit-detected reference signal that corresponds to positions of patterned bits on the disc. The write driver writes outgoing data bits received from an external connection to off-head electronics directly to the writer synchronized with the modified clock signal. The data buffer stores and converts digital data bits sent from the off-head electronics to an analog signal that is synchronized with the modified clock signal.
