Optical device and optical disc recording or reproducing method for optical disc including BCA having zone format identifier

According to an optical disc, a track, where data is recorded in predetermined block units, is formed by wobbling at a spatial period in accordance with a radial position, and the track is divided into zones in a radial direction. Data is recorded in each of the zones at a predetermined line density based on a ratio n/m of the number of bits of a bit pattern of recording data to one wavelength of wobbling. The optical disc includes a first area having one of the zones, a second area having one of the zones different from the one of the zones in the first area, and a line density of data different from a line density of data in the first area, and a BCA where a zone format identifier specifying a zone table defining a boundary position of each of the zones and the ratio n/m is recorded.

Digital optical tape archival storage systems and methods are disclosed. A digital optical tape recorder may simultaneously write data and two or more guide tracks onto a digital optical tape recording medium. A digital optical taper reader may include a camera comprising an array of detectors to capture a two-dimensional image of the digital optical tape recording medium, and an image processor to extract the data from the two-dimensional image. The camera may capture the two-dimensional image of the digital optical tape recording medium without aligning individual data bits recorded on the digital optical tape recording medium to individual detectors within the camera.

There are provided an optical disk and an optical disk recording method which are capable of stable data reading in a case where a recording linear density is increased. According to an optical disk of the present disclosure, a run-in pattern recorded in a groove track and a run-in pattern recorded in a land track are made different patterns so that no great change is caused in the amplitude of an acquired signal due to interference between adjacent recording patterns, and thus, data may be stably read.

Recording/reproducing apparatus and recording medium

This recording/reproducing apparatus that records or reproduces information by radiating light to a recording medium is provided with: a medium rotating unit that rotates the recording medium; a moving unit having a movable unit that is capable of moving within a predetermined plane; a rotation angle detecting unit that detects a rotating angle of the recording medium using an angle detection mark that is provided on the recording medium; a position detecting unit that detects a position of the recording medium using an eccentricity detection mark that is provided on the recording medium; and a member for fixing the rotation angle detecting unit and the position detecting unit. With respect to the member, the movable unit relatively moves within a plane substantially parallel to the recording surface of the recording medium, and the medium rotating unit is fixed to the movable unit.

The present invention is for more optimally performing recording and reproduction of stereoscopic video. In the present invention, parallax information is utilized to store, in a recording medium, stereoscopic video including left-eye images and right-eye images. Particularly, for video content that contains stereoscopic images, information is obtained regarding the amount of variation in parallactic angle having a given or larger value, a variation time that the variation in parallactic angle takes, and the number of times that the variation in parallactic angle occurs. An evaluation value is calculated that corresponds to the degree of eye fatigue on the basis of the amount of variation, the variation time, and the number of times of the variation. According to the present invention, the video content is encoded in such a manner that the evaluation value is within a given range, and then recorded in the recording medium.
