Moving cartridge between library strings

A library manager to determine a relay-point library string when a particular cartridge (specific cartridge) is moved to an empty drive (target drive) for mounting. A method for determining a relay-point library string includes: receiving a command to mount a cartridge in a library string located on one side of the relay-point library string; searching for the target drive among library strings, and finding the target drive in a library string on the other side of an interposed relay-point library string relative to the library string in which the specific cartridge is located; selecting a relay-point library string based on predetermined conditions to move the specific cartridge using shuttle connections to the found target drive; and searching to determine whether or there is a newly available drive in a relay-point library string other than the selected relay-point library string before the selected cartridge reaches the selected relay-point library string.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and computer readable media to handle unsuccessful movements of removable storage media in an automated removable media system. In a particular embodiment, a method provides receiving one or more user provided parameters that indicate one or more types of unsuccessful media move operations that should be reported as successful. The method further provides receiving a first request to move a first item of removable storage media from a first position in the automated removable media system to a second position in the automated removable media system and initiating a first move operation of the first item from the first position to the second position by at least one changer device. The method then provides determining that the first move operation resulted in one of the one or more types of unsuccessful media move operations and indicating that the first move operation was successful in response to the first request.

MOVING CARTRIDGES WITHIN A SHUTTLE COMPLEX
20180144771 · 2018-05-24 ·

The present description is directed to moving a cartridge including a storage medium within a shuttle complex that includes numerous shuttle connections, and a plurality of library strings connected by at least one shuttle connection. Each shuttle connection has a car able to move within the shuttle connection and each library string has at least one cartridge including a storage medium. The shuttle complex identifies a library string that contains the access-cartridge (LSAC), identifies whether there is a drive within the LSAC that has a second cartridge mounted therein which comprises only inactive data chunks, removes the second cartridge from the drive within the LSAC if an elapsed time since the drive within the LSAC most recently accessed the second cartridge exceeds a predetermined time period threshold, and mounts the access-cartridge to the drive within the LSAC.

LIBRARY CONTROL DEVICE AND LIBRARY CONTROL METHOD

A library control device moves a desired record medium from a magazine, which is configured to load a plurality of record media into a plurality of slots, to a drive so as to read or write data. The library control device stores identifications of record media in correlation with slots loading recording media. Upon detecting a malfunction in reading or writing data with a record medium, an operator needs to extract the record medium from the magazine. At this time, the library control device rewrites the identification of a slot, which is stored in correlation with the record medium subjected to extraction, with the identification of a predetermined slot so as to move the record medium to the predetermined slot. Thus, it is possible for an operator to extract the record medium detecting a malfunction from the predetermined slot without making any mistake.

Disc device and disc separation method

A disc device according to the present disclosure is a disc device for supplying a disc to each of a plurality of disc drives, and includes a carrier for retaining a plurality of discs in a stacked state, for separating one disc from the retained plurality of discs above a tray that is ejected from an arbitrary disc drive, and for placing the separated one disc on the tray. The carrier includes a first support claw that is capable of moving forward and backward below the plurality of discs, a second support claw that is capable of moving forward and backward into and out of a gap between a bottom disc and a disc that is adjacent to the bottom disc, among the plurality of discs, and a separation claw that is capable of moving forward and backward into and out of the gap and of pushing the bottom disc downward, where the bottom disc is separated from the retained plurality of discs by moving the first support claw, the second support claw, and the separation claw forward and backward, and pushing the bottom disc downward by the separation claw.

High performance robotic optical storage system

An apparatus includes one or more disc media cassettes configured to store multiple disc-based media. Multiple disc drives are configured to read and write data to the multiple disc-based media. A robotic delivery device is configured to transport a selected disc-based media to and from at least one disc drive of the multiple disc drives, and to transport the selected disc-based media directly to a spindle on the at least one disc drive.
