Multi-session concurrent testing for multi-actuator drive
A method for testing a multiple-actuator storage device includes accessing a first storage device comprising at least a first and a second logical unit and concurrently performing a first group of test operations on the first logical unit and a second group of test operations on the second logical unit. The method includes monitoring for an interruption during the performing the group of test operations on the first or the second logical unit, and during the monitoring, if it is determined that there is an interruption on one of the first or second logical units, performing the respective test operations on the other logical unit is temporarily suspended. The method also includes continuing to monitor for the interruption, and upon determining that the interruption is not currently active, resuming concurrently performing the test operations on the first and second logical units.
DATA STORAGE DEVICE DEMODULATING SERVO STRIPES USING MATCHED FILTER
A data storage device is disclosed comprising at least one head configured to access a magnetic tape comprising a plurality of servo frames each comprising a plurality of servo bursts, wherein each servo burst comprises a plurality of servo stripes. The servo stripes in a first servo burst are read using the head to generate a first read signal that is processed using a first matched filter matched to the first servo burst in order to generate an average time stamp for the servo stripes in the first servo burst. A position error signal (PES) is generated based on the average time stamp of the first servo burst, and the head is positioned relative to the magnetic tape based on the PES.
Data storage device executing just-in-time refresh
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a magnetic media comprising a plurality of data tracks, wherein each data track comprises a plurality of data sectors. A plurality of access commands are stored in a command queue, and an access command is selected from the command queue. When the selected access command is a write command to a target data track and at least part of a first data track proximate the target data track needs to be refreshed, a refresh read command is executed to read data from at least part of the first data track prior to executing the write command to the target data track.
MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE AND SECTOR PROCESSING METHOD
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk having a first sector including first servo data, first user data, and first correction information used to correct a data error, a head that writes data to the disk and that reads data from the disk, and a controller that changes, according to a first defect length of a defect generated in the first sector in a circumferential direction of the disk, a first sector length of the first sector in the circumferential direction.
MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE AND READ PROCESSING METHOD
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head that writes data to the disk and reads data from the disk, and a controller that corrects a first signal into a first likelihood value by machine learning based on a correct learning signal set with a likelihood other than 1 and an incorrect learning signal set with a likelihood other than 0 and executes error correction processing based on a second likelihood value according to the first signal and the first likelihood value.
Multi-actuator data storage system
A data storage device includes a data storage medium having a data storage surface. The data storage device also includes a first actuator having a first attached slider with a writer configured to write data on the data storage surface. The writer has a media-confronting surface covered by a first non-magnetic overcoat having a first thickness. The data storage device further includes a second actuator having a second attached slider with at least one user-data reader configured to read user data from the data storage surface and no writer for writing data on the data storage surface. The at least one user-data reader has a media-confronting surface covered by a second non-magnetic overcoat having a second thickness that is less than the first thickness of the first non-magnetic overcoat.
Image forming apparatus, control method of image forming apparatus, and program
When a plurality of units of the same data is stored for all jobs, the capacity of a hard disk may be greatly consumed. The present disclosure relates to a storage that stores data based on a job, and a controller configured to cause the storage to store the data and not to store data identical to the data, based on a job type of the job being a first type, and cause the storage to store the data and the data identical to the data, based on the job type of the job being a second type different from the first type.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING DISTANCE OF FREE FALL
A sensor includes a MEMS element responsive to acceleration, an analog-to-digital converter coupled to an output of the MEMS element, and a free fall detector coupled to an output of the analog-to-digital converter. The free fall detector is configured to determine whether the sensor is in free fall based on acceleration information received from the analog-to-digital converter. A digital interface is coupled to the analog-to-digital converter and to an output of the free fall detector and is configured to issue an output related to free fall information determined by the free fall detector.
DISC DEVICE WITH HEAD PLACEMENT RESPONSIVE TO SHOCK DETECTION
According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a base, a discoidal recording medium including an innermost circumferential portion and an outer circumferential edge, a head, a head actuator provided pivotably on the base and supporting the head movably, a first sensor which detects a shock and a drive unit which pivots, when the shock detected by the first sensor is greater than a predetermined value and the head is located at a position less than a predetermined distance from the innermost circumferential portion, the head actuator to place the head at a position more than the predetermined distance which satisfies a conditional formula below.
