SHINGLED MAGNETIC RECORDING STORAGE SYSTEM
20200043526 · 2020-02-06 ·

The disclosed technology provides a method that improves CCT in SMR device systems. In one implementation, the method comprises writing data to a shingled magnetic recording (SMR) band in a storage device, determining whether an off-track write has occurred, identifying unsafe written data in response to determining that an off-track write has occurred, determining whether caching space is available upon identifying unsafe written data, continue writing data to the SMR band without a write retry upon determining that caching space is available, and writing unsafe written data to the available caching space. In another implementation, the method comprises receiving a request to repair an encroached track in an SMR band, recovering encroached data to a dynamic random-access memory, determining whether caching space is available, writing the recovered data to the available caching space upon determining that caching space is available, and merging other cached data in the SMR band.

RECORDING DENSITY SETTING METHOD AND MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE

According to one embodiment, a recording density setting method includes performing first process and performing second process. The first process including recording and reading data on and from a disk medium of a magnetic disk device, and acquiring first information for setting the read data to satisfy a certain quality criterion. The first information represents a first shape of a first plurality of unit regions. Each of the a first plurality of unit regions is a recording region of a unit capacity. The second process includes acquiring second information representing a second shape of the first plurality of unit regions, and setting a recording density on the basis of the second information. The second shape is formed by adding margin regions having the same area to the first plurality of unit regions of the first shape.

A setting unit is configured to set first write processing for writing second data in a hard disk, or second write processing for writing the second data in the hard disk and reading data that is written by writing of the second data, and a change unit is configured to change the write processing set in the setting unit. The change unit changes the write processing set in the setting unit from the first write processing to the second write processing, based on determination that the first data is greater than or equal to a threshold by a determination unit.

To enable easy recognition of an attention point on an image of an attention frame at the time of editing image content. Moving image data is recorded on a recording medium. Electronic mark data including position information indicating a specific position on an image is further recorded on the recording medium in association with a specific frame of the moving image data. For example, the electronic mark data includes text data and further mark type data. For example, monitoring image data corresponding to the moving image data is transmitted to an external device (for example, an imaging monitoring device) and electronic mark provision operation information including position information is received from the external device.

SEQUENTIAL WRITE MANAGEMENT IN A DATA STORAGE SYSTEM

Sequential write management in accordance with the present description permits impermissible write retries to be processed by a hard drive such as a Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) hard dive. In one embodiment, logic returns a successful write indication in response to a received retry write request operation without writing data to the SMR hard drive if the data of the received retry write operation has already been successfully written to the same location requested by the received retry write request operation. Conversely, a failure notice is returned if the data of the received retry write request operation has not been previously successfully written to the same location requested by the received retry write request operation. Other features and aspects may be realized, depending upon the particular application.

A method of manufacturing magnetic tape storage data cartridges may include cutting a master tape having a first width into multiple tape sections that each have a smaller width than the first width, cleaning the tape sections to remove debris caused by the cutting, and writing the servo tracks on each tape section after the tape section is cleaned. The method may further include spooling each tape section into a respective tape cartridge after writing the servo track on the tape section.

Systems and methods for storing data are provided herein using a data archive architecture controlled by a head server. The head server can write data in a contiguous manner across multiple storage devices by partitioning objects into multiple portions and spreading the portions across the multiple storage devices. Portions of a first object can be transmitted to a first subset of storage devices and portions of a second object can be transmitted to a second subset of storage devices. The first subset of storage devices can write the portions of the first object to a first write location indicated by a write pointer. The head server can increment the write pointer based on a length of the portions of the first object to a second write location. The second subset of storage devices can write the portions of the second object to the second write location.

A method for writing data in a disk drive having actuators each controlling arms extending over disk surfaces, including: receiving a write command from a host; receiving from the host data; dividing the data into data blocks; determining: a first surface from the disk surfaces where data is written by a first head of an arm controlled by a first actuator of the actuators; and a second surface from the disk surfaces where data is written by a second head of an arm controlled by a second actuator of the actuators; determining storage blocks of each of the first and the second surface; and writing first data blocks of the divided data blocks to the determined storage blocks of the first surface using the first head while writing second data blocks of the divided data blocks to the determined storage blocks of the second surface using the second head.

It is possible to accurately and securely execute conversion from an MPEG-2TS format to an MP4 format. A data converting unit that executes format conversion from an MPEG-2TS format to an MP4 format sorts out TS packets storing video data from MPEG-2TS format data, selects a TS packet having a start code (SC) at the top of a payload on the basis of header information of the sorted out TS packets, and extracts payload configuration data other than the start code (SC) and sets the payload configuration data as configuration data of MP4 format data. The data converting unit determines, on the basis of, for example, a value of a transport priority set in a header of the TS packet, whether or not the TS packet is a TS packet in which a start code (SC) is set in a top region of a payload.
