SMR-HDD media cache copy transfer
A shingled magnetic recording (SMR) hard disk drive (HDD) receives a read command for data associated with a range of logical block addresses (LBAs). In situations where a first portion of valid data associated with the range of LBAs is stored in an SMR region of the HDD and a second portion of valid data associated with the range of LBAs is stored in a non-SMR region of the HDD, the first portion is read from the SMR region in a single disk access and copied to a first buffer of the HDD, and the second portion is read from the non-SMR region in one or more disk accesses and copied to a second buffer of the HDD. The valid data associated with the range of LBAs stored in the second buffer are copied to the first buffer to be combined with valid data associated with the range of LBAs stored in the first buffer, and the combined valid data is then transferred to the host to complete execution of the read command.
RECORD CONTROL APPARATUS
A record control apparatus controls record of a data item in one or more record sections. The record control apparatus includes: a data acquisition section that acquires the data item having multiple types; a data storage section that stores in the record section, the one or more data items matching a record condition prepared in advance among the acquired data item having multiple types; and a condition change section that defines the record condition as an old record condition, and sets so that the data storage section utilizes a new record condition in place of the old record condition when receiving the new record condition different from the old condition from an outside.

TAPE DRIVE CONFIGURATION
A method comprising: determining, by a tape library, respective tape densities supported by each of a plurality of tape drives and respective tape densities indicated for each of a plurality of tape cartridges; receiving, by the tape library, a command to load a given one of the tape cartridges into a given one of the tape drives; determining, by the tape library, that the indicated tape density for the given tape cartridge matches a tape density supported by the given tape drive; and in response to the determination that the tape densities match, configuring, by the tape library, the given tape drive to initialize the given tape cartridge to the tape density indicated for the given tape cartridge.
Signal processing apparatus, signal processing method, and program
The present technology relates to a signal processing apparatus, a signal processing method, and a program by which, in reproducing transmitted encoded data in real time, buffer overflow can be prevented from occurring on a reception apparatus side even if it is transmitted with a compression rate of the encoded data being varied in a manner that depends on communication condition. Encoded data including transmitted audio data is buffered by a reception buffer. At this time, the quantity of encoded data buffered by the reception buffer is managed in units of processing according to an encoding method. The present technology is applicable to a real-time content reproduction system utilizing a communication system.

Optical disc apparatus and optical disc in which user data is recorded in a first space in units of a first length and management information is recorded in a second space in units of a second length different from the first length
In an optical disc apparatus that records and reproduces data onto and from an optical disc in units of predetermined block, an information divider divides the data so as to reduce an amount of the data included in each of blocks when a recording state of the optical disc does not satisfy a predetermined criterion, and reproduces recording data in units of the block by adding sub-information including a value indicating the amount of the data included in each of the blocks. An error-correction encoder circuit encodes the recording data in a first error-correction code format, and a recorder converts encoded recording data into a recording signal, and records the recording signal onto the optical disc. A quality evaluator circuit produces an evaluation value indicating a recording quality based on a result of reproducing the recording signal recorded on the optical disc.
MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE AND DOL SETTING METHOD
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device including a disk, a head which writes data to the disk and reads data from the disk, and a controller which sets a first DOL for a first sector group and a second DOL for a second sector group to different values, the first sector group including one or more first sectors and a first parity sector, the first sectors which allow an error correction process to be performed for each track based on the first parity sector, and are continuously arranged in a circumferential direction of the disk from the first parity sector, the second sector group including one or more second sectors which allow no error correction process to be performed for each track, and are continuously arranged in the circumferential direction.

Microwave assisted magnetic recording drive utilizing interlaced track recording
Bottom tracks are written to a recording medium using a first setting of a spin-torque oscillator of a single microwave assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) head. Top tracks are written interlaced between and partially overlapping the bottom tracks using the single MAMR head at a second setting of the MAMR head, the first and second settings resulting in different bit aspect ratios for the top and bottom tracks.
