Hard disk fault handling method, array controller, and hard disk
A storage array includes a plurality of hard disks, where each of the hard disks is divided into a plurality of chunks, and a plurality of chunks of different hard disks form a chunk group by using a redundancy algorithm. The storage array obtains fault information of a faulty area in a first hard disk, and determines a faulty chunk storing the lost data according to the fault information. The storage array recovers the data in the faulty chunk by using another chunk in a chunk group to which the faulty chunk belongs and stores the recovered data in a recovered chunk. The recovered chunk is located in a second hard disk which is not a hard disk for forming the chunk group.
Recording and reproducing device for reconstructing user data
A recording/reproducing device and a recording/reproducing method, which are capable of improving reliability of data while securing compatibility with a file format employed in a recording medium are provided. Provided is a reconstruction method of reproduction data acquired from a reproducing device that reproduces data from a recording medium in which the data is recorded, performs error correction using a second error correction code specified in a file format employed in the recording medium, and outputs reproduction data, and the reconstruction method of the reproduction data includes obtaining reproduction data from the reproducing device, reading a first error correction code different from the second error correction code from the reproduction data, and performing error correction on the reproduction data using the first error correction code and reconstructing user data.
System and method for write-retry management
The technology disclosed herein pertains to a system and method for managing write failures in a disc drive. Implementations disclosed herein provide a method including monitoring write fault events per sector for a storage device, in response to a write fault event, updating a write fault repeat count table, wherein the repeat count table tracks a number of write fault repeat counts per sector, comparing a write fault repeat count for a sector to a predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, and in response to determining that the write fault repeat count for a sector is above the predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, performing a write-reassign operation.
Reading data on a storage medium using magnetization map
To read data from a storage medium, a magnetization map of the data stored on at least one portion of the storage medium is obtained. The magnetization map is analyzed to obtain intermediate data corresponding to the data stored on the at least one portion of storage medium. Further, the intermediate data is converted into the user data based on format emulation of a data storage format of the storage medium. The conversion of the intermediate data includes decrypting the intermediate data to obtain the user data.

Magnetic disk device, adjusting method thereof, and manufacturing method thereof
An adjusting method for a magnetic disk device including a disk, a head that writes data on the disk, a controller circuit that outputs write data and a control signal related to the write data, and an integrated circuit that outputs a write current to the head, includes adding a delay to a timing of polarity inversion of one bit of the write data or the control signal, outputting the write data and the control signal added with the delay from the controller circuit to the integrated circuit, outputting from the integrated circuit to the head, the write current having a current value that is changed at one of timings of polarity inversion of the write data, according to the control signal, and adjusting a deviation between the write data and the control signal, based on the output write current.
Using cache to manage errors in primary storage
An occurrence of at least one storage error is determined in an addressable portion of a primary storage storing a block of data. In response to determining the occurrence of the at least one storage error, it is determined whether the block of data is available in cache storage. In response to determining the block of data is cached, the cached block of data is used rather than the block of data from the addressable portion of the primary storage.

Tape apparatus and control device
A tape apparatus includes a tape drive and a processor. The tape drive is configured to perform data reading and data writing on a magnetic tape in which a plurality of tracks are formed. The processor is configured to control the tape drive to perform data reading and data writing on the plurality of tracks in a first segment among a plurality of segments obtained by dividing the magnetic tape in a running direction. The processor is configured to reserve a first track of the plurality of tracks as a copy target upon determining that an abnormality occurs in the first segment on the first track. The processor is configured to instruct the tape drive to copy data recorded in the first segment on the first track to a second segment on the first track at a predetermined timing. The second segment is adjacent to the first segment.
SCALING MEDIA UTILIZING HEALTHY REGIONS OF A TAPE CARTRIDGE
A tool for scaling media utilizing healthy regions of a data storage cartridge. The tool determines a health status index for one or more regions of a data storage cartridge. The tool records the health status index to a cartridge memory and housekeeping dataset of the data storage cartridge. The tool determines one or more available regions of the data storage cartridge, based, at least in part, on a capacity designation and the health status index for the one or more regions. The tool returns the one or more available regions and a reduced capacity for the data storage cartridge to a user.
