The reel lock member includes a projecting portion projecting to engage with the reel hub. The reel lock release member includes a main body and leg portions, the main body disposed between the reel lock member and cylindrical bottom portion, the leg portions extending from the main body and being inserted into through holes, the reel lock release member releasing engagement of the reel lock member and reel hub. The main body includes central portion and extension portions, the central portion in contact with the projecting portion, the extension portions extending radially to end portions connected to the leg portions, thicknesses of the extension portions along a uniaxial direction gradually decreasing from the central portion toward the end portions.

A tape cartridge, according to one approach, includes a housing, and a magnetic recording tape at least partially stored in the housing. The magnetic recording tape including a recording layer having encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an encapsulating layer, and a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles. A tape cartridge, according to another approach, includes a housing, and a magnetic recording tape at least partially stored in the housing. The magnetic recording tape include an underlayer having encapsulated nanoparticles each comprising a magnetic nanoparticle encapsulated by an aromatic polymer, and a polymeric binder binding the encapsulated nanoparticles.

The reel includes a reel hub including a cylindrical bottom portion. The reel lock member includes a projecting portion projecting toward the cylindrical bottom portion in a uniaxial direction and is urged in the uniaxial direction to engage with the reel hub. The reel lock release member includes a main body and a plurality of leg portions, the main body being disposed between the reel lock member and the cylindrical bottom portion, the plurality of leg portions extending from the main body in the uniaxial direction and being inserted into a plurality of through holes, the reel lock release member releasing engagement of the reel lock member and the reel hub. The main body includes a central portion and a plurality of extension portions, the central portion being in contact with the projecting portion, the plurality of extension portions extending radially along a direction perpendicular to the uniaxial direction from the central portion to end portions connected to the plurality of leg portions, thicknesses of the plurality of extension portions along the uniaxial direction gradually decreasing from the central portion toward the end portions.

The label includes a first label layer that is attached to the label surface and on which individual identification information is displayed in a two-dimensional code, and a second label layer attached to the first label layer with a peelable bonding force, the second label layer being capable of covering and concealing the two-dimensional code, and the individual identification information being displayed in a barcode on the second label layer. The two-dimensional code is displayed at a central part in a longitudinal direction of the label.

Provided is a recording tape cartridge including: a case that accommodates a reel on which a recording tape is wound and includes a reference surface that serves as a reference in an axial direction of the reel in a case where the case is loaded into a drive device; noncontact communication mediums on which individual information is recorded, the noncontact communication mediums being accommodated in the case in a state where at least two noncontact communication mediums overlap each other and having a plate shape; and a supporting portion that is formed in the case and supports the noncontact communication mediums such that the noncontact communication mediums are disposed while being inclined with respect to the reference surface at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

Cartridge

A cartridge includes a tape-shaped magnetic recording medium and a cartridge memory. The cartridge memory includes a communication unit that communicates with a recording/reproducing device in a state where the cartridge is loaded on the recording/reproducing device; a storage unit; and a control unit that stores information received from the recording/reproducing device through the communication unit in the storage unit, reads the information from the storage unit according to a request from the recording/reproducing device, and transmits the information to the recording/reproducing device through the communication unit. The information includes manufacturing information of the cartridge and adjustment information for adjusting a tension applied to the magnetic recording medium in a longitudinal direction thereof, and the tape-shaped magnetic recording medium has a plurality of servo bands.

Encrypted data key in medium auxiliary memory

A method for securing user data that is stored to a tape cartridge having a medium auxiliary memory (MAM) is described. When user data is sent to a tape library from a client, the tape library sends a request to a cloud based key management service for a data key to encrypt the user data and an encrypted data key that corresponds to the data key. The data key is used to encrypt the user data which is then stored to the tape cartridge and the encrypted data key is stored to the MAM. Upon decrypting the encrypted user data, the encrypted data key is extracted from the MAM and sent to the cloud based key management service where it is used to produce the data key from the cloud based key management service which is then sent to the tape library. When the tape library is in possession of the data key, the encrypted data in the tape cartridge can then be decrypted and sent to a requester of the user data.

Increasing tape drive head performance with sectional cleaning using a cartridge memory

A tape cartridge for increasing tape drive head performance is provided. The tape cartridge comprises a cleaning tape, a tape guide arrangement that guides the cleaning tape within the cleaner cartridge, a cleaning fluid application arrangement that applies cleaning fluid to the cleaning tape within the cleaner cartridge, and a cartridge memory that stores cleaning count and motor taches count information. The tape guide arrangement is operable to bring the cleaning tape in contact with the cleaning fluid application arrangement to apply the cleaning fluid onto the cleaning tape when the cleaning tape is subject to a first tension level and avoid the contact with the cleaning fluid application arrangement when the cleaning tape is subject to a second tension level to prevent application of the cleaning fluid onto the cleaning tape.

A tape media cartridge includes a cartridge housing having a standard form factor, a cartridge reel that is coupled to and retained within the cartridge and a tape media. The tape media can be selectively wound onto the cartridge reel between a fully wound state, a partially wound state and an unwound state. The tape media forms a media hollow cylinder having a media outer diameter and a media inner diameter that varies depending upon the state of the tape media. When the tape media is in the fully wound state, the tape media has a ratio of the media outer diameter to media inner diameter of at least approximately 95:43. The cartridge housing can include a side wall having a wall center and wall edge, the side wall having a side wall thickness that gradually increases from the side wall center to the side wall edge.

The cartridge body includes a cartridge length from a front to a rear of the cartridge body, and a cartridge width from a first side to a second side of the cartridge body. The cartridge hub is positioned within the cartridge body. The cartridge hub is configured so that the magnetic tape is wound around the cartridge hub within the cartridge body. The cartridge hub includes a hub diameter. The cartridge length and the cartridge width provide boundaries for a maximum wound tape diameter as the magnetic tape is wound around the cartridge hub within the cartridge body. A ratio of the maximum wound tape diameter to the hub diameter is at least approximately 3.50:1.
