09747953 · 2017-08-29 · ·

A base member of a disk drive apparatus includes a window portion, a first groove, and a communicating groove. The window portion passes through a bottom plate portion of the base member in an axial direction. The first groove is defined in an upper surface of the bottom plate portion around the window portion. A connector includes a board portion and an electrode terminal on a lower surface of the board portion. The board portion is on the upper surface of the bottom plate portion to cover the window portion, the first groove, and a portion of the communicating groove. The communicating groove extends from the first groove up to a position outside of an outer circumferential portion of the connector. An adhesive layer is between the upper surface of the bottom plate portion and the lower surface of the board portion.

In order to suppress the occurrence of adhesion between magnetic disks and spacers when the magnetic disks and the spacers are removed from a hard disk drive apparatus in which the magnetic disks and the spacers are installed, a surface roughness Ra of a main surface of a ring-shaped glass spacer to be arranged in contact with a magnetic disk is set to be not larger than 1.0 μm, and an average inclination RΔa of the main surface is set to be at least 0.02.

Hermetically-Sealed Hard Disk Drive Cover Perimeter Adhesive Seal

A hermetically-sealed hard disk drive (HDD) involves the inner surfaces of sidewalls of a second cover overlapping with and adhesively bonded with the outermost surfaces of sidewalls of an enclosure base. Matching angled sidewalls for the inner and outermost surfaces, and an adhesive bond that provides a hermetic seal in which a ratio of the height to the thickness of the adhesive bond is in a range of 50-100:1, may be utilized to provide a hermetic seal having a long, narrow diffusion path to inhibit diffusion of gas through the adhesive bond. The second cover may include preformed corner corrugations, and the base may include corner pockets in which corner pleats, formed with the corner corrugations by bending inward the cover sidewalls, are received within when the cover and base are bonded together.

DISK DRIVE HAVING A FILTER AND A FILTER FOR A DISK DRIVE
20170236556 · 2017-08-17 ·

A disk drive includes a housing, a disk recording medium disposed in the housing, and a plurality of filters disposed along a flow channel formed in the housing and overlapped with each other. Each of the filters including an outer member formed of an electrostatic woven fabric and electrostatic non-woven fibers contained in an enclosed space formed by the outer member.

DISK DEVICE

According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a housing including a sidewall, a magnetic disk, a wireless communication device including a first communication antenna, and a first insulating member. The sidewall includes a first through portion. The first insulating member closes the first through portion. The first communication antenna is located in the first through portion, is disposed spaced from the housing, and wirelessly communicates with an outside of the housing.

Adhesive Leak Channel Structure For Hermetic Sealing Of A Hard Disk Drive

In the context of a hard disk drive (HDD), an adhesive leak channel structural feature is positioned in an area at which an electrical feed-through is adhered with an adhesive to an enclosure base, where the leak channel feature inhibits the leakage of gas through the adhesive. Embodiments include providing the leak channel feature on the base and/or on the feed-through. Embodiments may further include application of an electrodeposition coating to the base in an area at which the adhesive is in contact.

DUAL GASKET FOR MANUFACTURING OF HERMETICALLY-SEALED HARD DISK DRIVE

A hard disk drive (HDD) includes an enclosure base, a first cover coupled to the base, and two separate gasket seals composed of different materials and configured to seal the interface between the first cover and the base. One gasket seal is composed of a material having a low permeability to helium or another lighter-than-air gas contained within the HDD, and the other gasket seal is composed of material having a low water vapor or moisture transmission. By using two separate independent gaskets which have different attributes, the lighter-than-air gas concentration is kept high and humidity is kept low during manufacturing testing, prior to affixing a hermetic second cover over the first cover, and degradation of HDD performance due to change of flying height is ultimately avoided.

A ring-shaped spacer is to be arranged in contact with a magnetic disk in a hard disk drive apparatus. A maximum height surface roughness Rz of an outer circumferential edge surface of the spacer is at least 1.5 μm, and the spacer is made of amorphous glass.

Component configured to stiffen an electric motor assembly

An apparatus includes a first component and a second component. The second component is located at a first position. The second component includes a first connection to the first component. The first position and the first connection are configured to stiffen an electric motor assembly.

Hard disk drive with feedthrough connector

Described herein is an apparatus that includes a housing that defines an interior cavity. The housing also includes a feedthrough aperture. The apparatus also includes an electrical connector that is coupled to the housing over the feedthrough aperture. The electrical connector includes a base, a plurality of pins extending through the base, and a skirt positioned about a periphery of the base. The pins extend from a location external to the housing to a location within the interior cavity of the housing. Further, an inner surface of the base is co-planar with an outer end of the feedthrough aperture. The apparatus also includes solder positioned on the housing and against an entire periphery of the skirt to seal the electrical connector to the housing.
