A disk drive housing includes an accommodation unit in which a disk and a motor are accommodated, the disk rotating about a center axis extending vertically, the motor rotating the disk; and a non-piercing first screw hole including a die-cast metal in which an upper surface is opened, the non-piercing first screw hole extending from a first end surface toward a second end surface. The first screw hole includes a first region disposed at a leading end of an inner surface of the first screw hole, the first region including a first portion of the die-cast metal member covered with a chill layer; and a second region in which a screw is disposed on an inner circumferential surface of the first screw hole, the second region including a second portion of the die-cast metal member that is exposed.

Enclosures, devices with a friction stir weld, precursors thereof, and related methods

Described are enclosures that include a friction stir weld, including electronic device enclosures, and precursors thereof, that contain a base and a cover that in an assembled condition form a joint at which a friction stir weld can be produced, as well as methods for producing a friction stir weld at a joint of such an assembly.

EXTERNAL ELECTRONIC DEVICE

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a casing and a moveable plate. The moveable plate disposed at the outside of the casing via the hinge. The moveable plate is selectively moved toward or away from the casing.

BASE PLATE AND DISK DRIVE DEVICE

A base plate includes a support part, a bottom plate part, and a wall part. The wall part includes a first wall part and a second wall part above the first wall part. The first wall part includes a first wall surface and a support surface spreading from an upper end of the first wall surface to a radially outer side. The second wall part includes a second wall surface and a recess recessed to the radially outer side from the second wall surface. The recess is defined by a space enclosed by a recess wall surface located on the radially outer side of the second wall surface and extending upward from the support surface, a recess top surface connecting from an upper end of the recess wall surface to the second wall surface, and a recess support surface facing the recess top surface in an axial direction.

Drive cover with overmold features for clamp assembly contact

The apparatus includes a drive base, a drive cover overlying the drive base, wherein the drive cover comprises an opening therein, and wherein the drive cover is coupled to the drive base to enclose a media within an interior of the apparatus. A snubber is overmolded onto the drive cover. A clamp assembly contacts the snubber during shock events.

Disk drive cover with spring force compression feature

An apparatus includes a drive base. A drive cover overlies the drive base. A fastener secures the drive cover to the drive base. The fastener extends through the drive cover and into the drive base. A gasket is between the drive base and the drive cover. The gasket is compressed by the drive base and the drive cover. A spring feature is formed in the drive cover. The spring feature exerts a first force on the fastener and a second force on the base. The first force is opposite the second force.

Disk device

A disk device includes a top cover and a disk medium with a recording surface. The top cover includes a center horizontal portion having a surface which extends from a center point of the disk medium along the recording surface to an outer peripheral portion, a curved portion having a surface which extends from the outer peripheral portion of the center horizontal portion in a direction away from the recording surface, and an outer horizontal portion having a surface which extends from the curved portion in a direction away from the center point and along the recording surface. The recording surface includes a first zone in which data is set to be written, and a second zone in which data is set not to be written, the second zone being disposed adjacent to the first zone on an outer edge side of the disk medium from the first zone.

Opening/closing mechanism for rotary cover

A rotation cover opening/closing mechanism includes a transparent plate-shaped cover, a shaft body, and a turning mechanism. The cover closes an opening portion formed in a part of an upper surface of device body. One end of the shaft body is perpendicularly fixed to the cover, and at least a part of the shaft body at the other end of the shaft body is inserted into the device body. The turning mechanism rotatably supports the shaft body inside the device body to allow turning of the cover around the shaft body in a plane parallel with the upper surface of the device body. The turning mechanism includes a limitation portion that limits a rotation angle of the shaft body to a fixed range such that the cover turns between a cover closing position where the cover closes the opening portion, and a cover opening position where the cover opens the opening portion.

Base unit and disk drive apparatus

A base member includes a recessed portion extending in radial directions and recessed upward from a lower surface of the base member and a hole extending through the recessed portion in the vertical direction. The recessed portion includes a recessed portion loop-shaped surface defining a loop-shaped surface in the radial direction. A connector is located on a lower side of the recessed portion to cover the hole portion. An adhesive is located between the connector and the recessed portion. A minimum value of a gap distance in the radial direction between an outer end of the connector and an inner end of the recessed portion in which the outer end of the connector and the inner end of the recessed portion are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween is greater than a minimum value of a gap in the vertical direction distance between an upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface, in which the upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween. The adhesive includes an inorganic filler.
